Looking for action around the STL area

Yea I'm going to be in town for about a week from California for this relative deal me and my wife are going to. I am a pretty good player and would like to play some couple hundred dollar sets and I will play all night long. Anybody know anyone? Thanks a lot

Go just across the line to Cohokia. There's a decent place there, called Break Billiards. I haven't matched up there, but I don't think you'd have any problems finding a match. Just a few miles down the road from there is Brendens in Bellevue, IL. Talk to the guy behind the desk and he can usually find you a good 1pocket game. I've played 1hole in there, but never 9-ball. DO NOT play on the 8 foot tables. Lots of problems with them, IMO. Cushions suck and some aren't even glued to the wood... pretty bad, but they do have a couple of Diamond Pros that play great... that's where you'll find the 1 pocket action. If you don't mind the 45 minute drive north, in Alton, IL there is a place called Riverbend Billiards. I haven't been to Riverbend yet, but a friend of mine has. He didn't like it because everyone wanted to play one pocket and he couldn't find anyone that wanted to match up playing 9-ball. Personally, sounds like my kind of place, but he doesn't like 1pocket.

Good luck,

Bob

I may be interested in doing something with you this week. I just recently moved to the STL area, and would prefer to play at The Break in Cahokia, IL or the Billiard Bullpen in Collinsville, IL. I won't have access to my computer during the week this week, so I will PM you my phone number.

Isn't AZb'er OldHasBeen from St. Louis and a money player? I thought he always invited folks to come around and said he could get people games.

You might want to try private messaging him.

Yes, Old Has Been is the guy to talk to. There used to be decent action at Afton Billiards on Gravois Road in St. Louis. Small 6 table room. Sports Center is also on Gravois right down the street from Afton. Haven't been to either in years, but OHB should know if there is anything going on at those places. Chesterfield Billiards might have some action. I think Lou Figueroa plays there. If you ask the bartender, I'm sure he can steer you into a game. With the exception of Afton Billiards and maybe Chesterfield, most of these places are full of punks, not players. Across the river at the Break is probably your best bet. Almost guaranteed action there.Check with OHB. He knows.

It doesn't matter... Lou, also better known as CLC (cheap lawn chair) doesn't play for the kind of money that this guy is looking to play for.

The Break Is Where The Action Starts!

Just noticed this thread. The Break is where the action is in St. Louis. It is where the best players AND best scores play.
ALL WHO HAVE COME TO THE BREAK - HAVE GOTTEN ACTION !!!
You can play for what you want - $10 a game OR $5K a game.
It is a hard place to sneak up on someone - but - there is good action for anyone.
The best thing to do is just declare yourself and it will happen.
ANYONE CAN PM ME AND I WILL GIVE THEM MY 800#

It seems like there are many posts like this by new (same) members. If the intent is to get as many names of billiard rooms and locations, ask AZ guys. They may make the job easier.

What makes you think this guy isn't exactly what he sez he is: "...going to be in town for about a week from California for this relative deal me and my wife are going to. I am a pretty good player and would like to play some couple hundred dollar sets and I will play all night long"?

Ask AZ guys, didn't he do that by posting on the place where AZ guys are?

There has been a string of these recently by new members.

I think that AZ could put a post up to collect billiard room info that would be helpful to all.

e.g.

City, State, mapped location, phone number, web site (if any) email, number of pool tables, size of pool tables, type of pool tables, rates, in-house pro-shop, cue shaft work done in house local and wait time, tounaments. (pick and choose what would be included)

This would help everyone who travels or even just lives in the area.

That's great idea! There should be a list or chart of some sort like that. Could have weekly/monthly/regional/special tournaments, if you can get action there, places to avoid, etc. Like a pool hall road atlas.

I found a website one time that pretty attempted to list all the pool halls in the country, their phone #s and a couple of other small tidbits of info but it was hard to keep up because so many phs close up and new ones start up. It's a real moving target when you try to list all of them like that. Great idea though. Maybe on a forum like this, it would be much easier because most of the states are represented here and it wouldn't take that much to keep it current.

Rick,

I think Joe Tucker was working on something like this about a month ago.

Old Has Been gave you good advice on where to gamble. If you are looking for a good clean pool room I would recommend Cue and Cushion.
