I got a message about my post, just wanted to clarify what I was trying to say.
I am definitely NOT against aiming systems - like I said, I use them pretty much on every shot. Has strengthened my game for sure, no doubt. I'm also not trying to tell you to spend money on lessons instead of an aiming system, even though I am a part time instructor I don't subscribe to the "give me money instead" routine to try and make your game better. I've had 5 lessons in my life, 3 or 4 good and 1 mediocre, I built myself into an "A" player by reading, watching, and lots of hard work all on my own.
However, not everyone can do that. I even feel at my level now that I would benefit from a mentor, coach, etc. I've been lucky enough to play with several top pros lately and hoping to do more of the same (if they would just quit traveling all over!!!), it definitely helps cement some concepts and increases my concentration.
I was inferring your skill level as a somewhat beginner from your post, hopefully I was not mistaken. I've had many conversations with people through the aiming forum about Pro1, SEE, etc., and quite often people are frustrated when trying to learn the systems. Either not enough info, or too much, and they think they are doing the steps correctly but are not. When myself or others talk to them and get into details, sometimes it help, other times it requires seeing a video or helping in person. The fact is you need both aiming and good fundamentals to be successful - if you can see the lines and the spot to hit but can't deliver the cue ball there, the aiming systems are useless. Conversely, if you have great technique but can't aim or have no speed control or knowledge or concepts, that straight stroke isn't much good either. You might get there by hitting a million balls, or putting in 10,000 hours, etc., but that's a lot of practice for most part-time pool players.
So I guess that was my motivation for my post. I would hate for you to put all of your hopes on an aiming system, get frustrated, and not progress as you should.
