Raist < ---- getting ready to start buying old schons....
TATE said:I didn't think so, but then Barry e-mailed me and said "dad made forearms for Schon". I'm not sure which ones he made. I am hoping Bill will call Bob Runde and ask him which ones Gus made.
In any case, the points on these Schons are about as good as it gets by hand in the mid 1980's.

Hersheybarbilli said:It is my opinion that the Gus forearms on the old Schons are the unstained, straight grained ones. Not the curly maple lightly stained forearms. I do not want to imply that all the unstained are from Gus but that Gus only made this type for Runde. An example from my collection is the R9 (7th cue from the left).
This is simply my opinion formed from discussions with various collectors and players. There is a board member here on AZ named Mike Cernero who can speak to this topic. Maybe Mike will chime in.
Whether made by Gus or Runde the work is fabuluos and the cues play great.

Geez nice collection.. Anyway yes, Gus did supply Schon with parts back in the 80s. Not only forearms, Gus supplied blanks too. I'm not going to say that all the cues from that era were made by parts supplied by Gus. But yes Gus was supplying some of the cue making industy with machined parts.
Gus was a machinst. Gus only produced so many cues. Gus supplemented his income by selling machined parts to other cue makers. Yes Gus did supply Schon with parts. I would say look for the older Schons without the stained forearm, the short ebony points followed by the 4 colored veneers.. LOOK at a plain 4point/4veneer G Boti cue. Then look at the Schon and look for the similarites in the size of the points and the style/size of the veneers... Then it becomes more clear as to which Schons can be further investigated.
Try asking Evan Clark (??). To the trained eye being fimilar with the G Boti style blank it can become easier to suspect which cues were produced from Gus parts. According to Evan they only purchased about 2 dozen blanks from Gus and Evan says ""he owns most all of those blanks"".... I don't know... I see 3 cues from Bill's collection that too me looks exactly like a Boti Blank. And thats from only lookiing at the same pic we all see above.
To me #3, #7 and #13 from the left look pretty similar to a plain G Boti.. This is just my own opinion... Hey Bill how much you want for those 3 cues? I'm serious. I would like to buy those 3 cues.... #3, #7 and #13 from the left.. Hey Bill that J M Chris Cue,,, what a catch that one was. To me those 3cues are worth 2000 ea.. And I'm not saying that any one of those cues are for sure G Boti Blanks, but I would still want to buy them.. JMHO.. I'm Sorry I have one of the #'s wrong... #5, #7 and #13... Not # 3.. Sorry about that... #5, #7 and #13 from the left...
