I'm hoping somebody on this fine forum can provide me the name of a good pool room in the Denver, Colorado, area, preferably close to Interstate Route I-70. :o

Any info would be greatly appreciated, and I thank you in advance! :)

Perhaps you can try out Paradise Billiards, on the north side of town.

Jennie, are ya'll driving to Vegas?!?!?

I was going to say "try Brooklyn's" but I can't tell if they're even still OPEN or not... no listing on dexonline (phone book site) and no one's answering their phone number (had it in my phone after all) and their mailbox is full.

I guess Paradise is the next logical choice.

Here's a link to Google Maps for that intersection:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=W+38th+Ave+&+Sheridan+Blvd,+Denver,+CO+80212&ie=UTF8&om=1

Drop a line when you'll be heading through town, maybe some of us locals can get together.

The place you're looking for would be Paradise Billiards (used to be Familiy Fun Center) It's just off of I-70 & Sheridan, south a few blocks I believe, it's at 38th st. If Melody is cooking, try the patty melt and tell her Regas sent you :) It's un-freakin'-believable.

A little further south on Sheridan (at 20th) is Table Steaks (if it's still there) which is good for action as well.

If you go to Paradise, Ask Terry or Rene (owners) or Melody to get the G-Man on the phone, Dave Gomez. He might want to play a little. I think Keith played him in Vegas several years ago. If you happen to stop in there, tell them 'hi' for me as well and tell them I miss them all.

I'm sure Keith can stir up some action at either of those places....and they both serve beer.

There's bartable and bigtable action at both.

Cheers,
RC

Paradise is definately where you want to stop. It will be quite and the tables are tough. Like another poster said, Table Steaks is right down Sheridan about a mile or so....it's a little louder, but still some action maybe.

If Keith is up for some one-pocket action I might be willing to donate some. : )

Good luck on your travels. When you coming through??

Regards,

Doug

Do they still have the Gold Crowns? Last time I was there the pockets seemed rather 'liberal', if you catch my drift.

Yep, all 2,428.78 miles of it, which according to Mapquest will take 36 hours and 10 minutes. :p

If you lived in D.C. and typed as much stuff as I have about terrorism, flying on an airplane isn't very attractive, at least for me, in the year 2006. So I'm going to keep my feet on the ground for as long as I can. Plus, I think it's going to be kind of fun! :)

Thanks for all the GREAT responses on Denver. I think that's where we're going to spend a day or two before Vegas, hoping to get a few good days of practice in. Paradise Billiards looks GREAT.

Doug, Keith would definitely be up for hitting 'em with you, and, Regis, I'll be checking out Melody's patty melts.

We're leaving tomorrow and will be stopping in several cities en route to Vegas so that Keith can get a little practice in along the way, as opposed to driving 10-hour days and having no practice. According to the map, it looks as if the big cities we'll be traveling through will be Indianapolis; Lincoln, Nebraska; and then Denver. Hopefully, we will arrive in Vegas a day or two early, as the players' meeting begins at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday the 22nd.

Vegas or bust, here I come! :D

WOW! More power to you, I certainly don't have it in me to do that.... I hate traveling by car. I'm sure it has something to do with going from SC to IN to LA to Iowa back to SC....zigzagging like that when I was an army brat. It's all I can do to stand the 600 mile drive back to SC to see friends and family.

LOL, the only way I think that trip, for you, could be fun is if you have a keg of Bud in the truck and you get a long cord for the tap so that it can be snuck through the back seat. :D

Jennie, you guys have a safe trip. Keith, good luck out there in Vegas!

Is this the same guy that accused me of selling Shane a warped cue? LOL. I guess we're buddies again? No, the GC's there are fairly demanding. If I recall, two balls will jam near the tips of the corner pockets.

Doug

I know what you mean. I've sure done my share of driving in the past 5 years. LOL :D

I'm definitely old school, though, and thoroughly enjoy the on-the-road pool journey. I've come across some of the BEST pool rooms by happenstance, and that's kind of why we're leaving tomorrow, hoping to leave enough time to see the sights en route to Vegas. I'm thinking by the time we get to Denver, we'll be able to hang out a day or two to allow Keith to hit some balls.

And, Salamander, I will sent you a PM when I know our ETA to Paradise. I will have my laptop with me.

Soon to be on the road and singing:

Yes, Paradise does have older Gold Crowns but the size of the pockets depends on the table you select:

When you walk in the door from the rear parking lot you are facing 6 tables, 3 closest to the bar & 3 more the other side of the chairs. The 2 tables nearest the bar & the wall (left as you walk in) and the one in the corner (left one past the chairs) have had the rubber replaced and lengthened so the pockets are tighter (between double/triple shimmed) but with only one shim. Excellent for one pocket and tight 9-ball/8-ball tables. I recommend the one in the back corner, it's out of the traffic pattern. The 2 tables next to the one in the corner in the back row are full sized GC pockets and are quite liberal. The remaining table in the front row (the furthest right of the 3 in the front row) has been shimmed (I think doubled) and has the original rubber.

There are other tables on the other side of the room that have the bar tables and I think only the one closest to the first row has double shims. The others are loose. They also have a golf game every day on a 5x10 snooker table that Keith might enjoy. They don't play for much but it looks like fun if you like to do the golf song (b#tching about everything :D).

Hope Jam & Keith enjoy their road trip and good luck in Vegas.

Dave
