Looking For The Best Non-Phenolic Break Tip

(3) Is the Tiger jump/break tip part phenolic - I read that it was phenolic on the bottom and leather on top.

Thanks again.

No, there is not any Phenolic on the Tiger Jump/Break tip.

It is a hybrid tip using a combination of a Super Hard Cowhide and Hard Pig Leather. It is the hardest leather cue tip available and it holds chalk very well.

We tried a phenolic/leather combo and it just does not work.

P.S. Our Tiger Jump/Break is IPT Legal.

Super Pro

I have been using the Super Pro tip for about 18 months and love it. It is hard enough to have a killer break while holding chalk extremely well. Just don't try to trim one without a lathe. Any one who has tried to break with my break cue that has this tip on it can't believe how much control they have without any loss of power. You can get them on ebay from American Cowboy Billiards.

Also from Prather for like $25 per box of 50. They don't jump well...but they do actually play well for players who love a harder tip. Red color looks trick too.

I severly suggest you try the Picone White Diamond tips. Nearly/Just as hard as phenolic, but without the "glass shattering" miscues. And yes i know that's exactly how Picone Advertises them, but they work very well as j/b.

Or just use a piece of Aegis or Ivorine rod as the tip...same thing.
I believe the original poster was looking for a "leather" tip.

I used to use WB tips on break cues, and then went to the Talisman pro X-Hard, and cut it down shorter. Worked real well, but now everything gets phenolic, unless otherwise requested.

Why?

Why change if it works? Also, what made you decide that phenolic was a better standard choice?

Talisman has a new layered break tip they are giving away when you order their Pro or WB tips. Not to hard, not to soft. Great for cue ball control.
Ive been using one for 2 months now when my Phenolic isn't getting the results I want.
Great tip, and cant beat the free price tag.:)

I agree entirely. Had the phenolic tip on my new BK2 replaced with a Talisman BK tip... much better cb control.

Thats why I use the canvas resin exclusively on my j/b cues. The cr actually fuzzes up when domed, much like leather and holds chalk as well as any tip. I go a bit further by cutting groves in the surface that really allow the tip to pack the chalk in...and will flat cut through a cube in no time. Extreme english can even be applied with no fear of miscue as with the phenolic. Part of having control on the break is to leave the tip somewhat flat, that way you don't put any unwanted english on the ball and it makes it easier to park the cueball in the center of the table. Its stronger too...I give a lifetime warranty...it will not crack, split, explode or wear out. I've seen way too many phenolic tips crack/break apart. So...a break tip that last forever, works wonderful (jump a full ball from less than 1 inch), won't mushroom, does not miscue like phenolic...I see no need for a leather j/b tip...unless you want to comply with IPT rules. I will be glad to install one at no charge for a forum member if he'd like to try it & post his results.
