Al Blackwell Bacote cue & Thoughts on price of Diveney Cues....

To appease some forum police here is a picture of a nice Al Blackwell cue...this cue features some sweet ass bacote and a simple buttsleeve of ebony with curly Koa windows .......as a side note lets talk about Diveney cues.

Just don't see how his cues are being priced......way to high IMO....top tier prices

This is the gallery... Do you have a picture??

I've owned a couple of Diveney Cues, they were nice, but I didn't get them direct..

You are entitled to your opinion, BUT....
If you want one of his cues, and feel the price is higher than you want to pay talk to the man.. Maybe he'll work with you, but to start a negative thread about a persons business solely on his pricing structure is WRONG imo... Let the market dictate whether his cues sell..

Don't feel that the thread is negative...I'm just stating an observation about his cues
Even on the second hand market. I feel there are many cuemaker at or above his level that don't command prices his cue do. If we can't talk about things like this on a public forum....then where can we? Also here's buttsleeve of cue fi spoke of in first post.

As I said you are entitled to your opinion, and so am I..

My opinion is that your thread is in the wrong section, and the thread is in poor taste..

I don't know Mr. Diveney, but I'm guessing building cues is how the man pays his bills, and supports his family...It's also possible Mr. Diveney might have children and grand children that benefit from the proceeds from his cue sales..

The bottom line is you never F()@& with a persons lively hood unless they F()@&
with yours..

I'm guessing Pat and his family have done nothing to you so why don't you have this thread deleted, and continue this topic behind closed doors..

I don't know exact numbers, but anyone who uses a razor blade to even out points after a cue is at final size really shouldn't get top dollar for their cues...

Well I feel your opinion is a little blown out of proportion to the context of my question.
I didn't say anything bad about the man and even said he was a second tier maker (which is a compliment) ....just want to know why the second had market seems to command these insane prices...its a legitimate question.

The post above was your original post before you edited it... You didn't mention the secondary market...

To OP-

Who are you to single out one cuemaker for their prices? I see cues all over the place that are posted for what I think is an overvalued price, and guess what? I don't start a flame thread over it. If it's secondary market you're looking at, the CM probably isn't setting the values anyways. It's flippers and dealers you have a problem with. If it's too high, the market will decide. It's only worth what someone will pay, and if there are buyers out there who want his cues, they'll pay to get them. Are there better deals out there? Maybe, but that's not what matters to the buyer. Posting this thread is a d*ck move IMO, as it reflects poorly on a cuemaker who to my current knowledge has done nothing wrong. If you don't see that, it's a problem.

There is an area for reviewing cues on AZ. The rules are pretty clear.

A number of people evidently do not think his cues are overpriced or he would not be able to sell them.

If you think the price is too high, don't buy one but please respect the cuemaker. The cue market will always determine the "right" price for a cue.
 
Some of the charm of Diveney's cues are his shafts...very select, excellent taper. I test drove one of his full splice bumperless wrapless cues with a shaft made out of recovered lake wood that was really really nice...I'd have spent more (much more) for it than the owner did, so there your are.

I agree.. Pats taper is nice..,
I did a cue deal with samsarakid24 and in partial trade I got a entry level Coco sneaky with no collars,or butt plate..
Just a simple cue, but it played really good..
I was very impressed..
 
Kinda funny, all I hear about is how low his prices are for how good his worksmanship and how good his cues hit. This thread strikes me as a bit ridiculous considering that I've never, ever heard a bad word about his cues and some of the best players in the world are known to have used them. When I think of overpriced cuemakers, Pat Diviney is probably the third-to-last one I'd think of behind Jerry R. and Bob Frey.

Plus you're just throwing someone under the bus for no reason which clearly makes you, for lack of an expletive, a butt head.
 
Everyone could have done without this thread.

It is definitely in poor taste to single out a maker and criticize his pricing. If the thread reflects the OP thoughts...why should the OP even care?

The way this thread was written is like, have we all stopped beating our wives? If the OP wanted to learn what the attraction to the maker's cues where, a positive question would be to ask why the cues are so special and have such a strong following?

A buddy of mine had a simple Sneaky from Pat - Cue played well, was very clean and did not have some of the flaws I've seen from other cuemakers (or simply cleaner work) and was priced very well compared to other folks simple cues.
 
I know Pat and Brian buy the best materials they can get their hands on for the cues they make. I'm glad they enjoy the sales success and good reputation they so rightly deserve.

Local player Santos Sambijon has been playing quite sporty with a Diveney cue for about 5 or so years. Same cue. If it was a turd cue he would have discarded it long ago. What is overpriced to you might be a bargain to someone else. Move on to a lower priced cue or cuemaker if price is your guiding concern. There's no shortage of excellent cues both new and used at all kinds of price points As was already mentioned, not the right place for this thread anyway.
