looking to buy a lathe..

There is a lathe for sale by Scott Behrens on this forum. You wont go wrong if you ge this lathe and it's a darn good price.
Chris makes a solid machine. It will do everything you will need and more.
 
I highly recommend Bassel's lathes. I recently got his repair lathe with most of its available options. I love the machine. I plan to post a review, soon. I'm not comparing his lathes with the lathes of any other lathe maker, just giving my honest opinion... his is an excellent lathe.

I never plan to go farther than repair and tips/ferrules replacement, so the REPAIR model is all I need, but since you have indicated you may be interested in cuemaking I would advise you to start out with Bassel's CUEMAKER model.

Cuesmith deluxe hands down. A solid machine that can do all you need to do repairs, cue building, ringwork and so on and so on ect.
 
Its a no brainer. Hightower all the way. He has the BEST reputation, and has been building cue making equipment for many many years. His is not a fly by nite operation, and his knowledge of cue building is priceless. His customer service is 2nd to none. Beware of Knock offs and shady dealers!!!
 
If you're going to order one from Chris and want it soon, order now. Wait much longer, and everyone get's in line with their tax refund checks in hand and he'll be 15 or 20 deep.
 
I have a few real metal lathes for sale. None of them have a hole through the headstock large enough to chuck a butt through it but they're great for shaft work and one would make a good tapering lathe for butts or whatever.

Most are Atlas or Craftsmen made by Atlas. These offer higher precision than most of the Taig based lathes and are built like a tank. Very sturdy! I can't ship them so whoever buys them will have to come look at them here in

Cincinnati and haul them home. I also have some saws, a big dust collector and a bunch of odds & ends. I'll throw in some good old house cues for sneaky Pete's with any lathe purchase. All of the equipment is in excess to my

regular shop equipment. Stuff I picked up at auctions and machinery sales that I planned to put to work but never found time or the need to do so. I'm NOT selling my regular shop equipment off by the piece that I use in

cuemaking. If I sell any of it the purchaser has to buy it all. I'm not breaking it up and leave myself with part of a working shop.

Thanks for pointing that out. Lead time is pretty short right now. No wait on a Mid Size Cue Smith with Large bore as I have one ready to go and another almost ready and the wait is only two to three weeks on a Deluxe. But like you said after the tax refund checks start getting to people I sometimes get two to three months behind on Deluxes after the first of the year.
