Looking To Get A New Cue

Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum here by the way. I just got back into playing Pool again after several years, and I'm looking to get a new cue sometime in the near future. I'm happy with the cue I have, I actually just want something with a bit of a different look.

I currently shoot with a Lucasi L-E40, which I really like. The cues I've been looking into possibly getting are a Lucasi L-E29, Meucci HP-1 (possibly with a Predator shaft because I heard the black dot shafts aren't very good) and the Balabushka LGB-8.

Very obvious similarities in the look between the three cues, which that is the style I'm looking for.

At this point I think I'm leaning towards the Lucasi, for a few reasons. I've been shooting one for years so I know I'll like it, and I've heard some iffy things about new Meucci's. My Dad had an older one, maybe from the 90's, which shot great, but I've heard the quality has dropped a bit over the years, which steers me away from the Meucci a bit, but I have heard they are still good quality. I've read that the replica Balabushka's are a decent cue, but maybe not the best for the money.

I'm just kind of looking to get some different opinions here. I've also read on the forums a bit that there are some guys on the forums here that will build cues for you? Wasn't sure if anyone had some info about that also.

Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

If you like Lucasi, then it would probably be a good idea to stick with that brand. HOWEVER, differnt models within the same brand can hit differently.

Do you have a pool products dealer in your town where you could go try one out?

But maybe the best advice is that if you really like what you have now...hell with how it looks. The question is how does it PLAY.

If it ain't broke...don't fix it.

Finally, since the nature of your post suggests you're not a top speed player who has no need to make changes in his/her game...I think that getting a Predator or OB shaft is a good idea for you.

That would be especially true if you don't use BHE...which I don't use but am personally satisfied offsets all or nearly all of the negatives associated with deflection.

OTHERS WILL DISAGREE as thousands of posts on this forum proves.

Let me start by saying welcome to AZ. Now to your question, as far as Meucci is concerned I would stay away. The quality has indeed declined and its just not worth the money. Not to mention they play like SH*t.

I have only seen one Balbushka in my area and it is an original but I have not heard too much about the Action Brand Balabushka but I am sure it would not play any better than the Lucasi you have.

I would suggest you stick with the Lucasi because you already have one and if there is a difference it will most likely be because of the LD shaft's that come with the Lucasi of today.

As far as getting a butt with a Predator shaft, I think you would come out better getting the whole cue due to the price of the shafts.

At the end of the day it would better benefit you to go to your hall and find a couple of your buddy's that may have the brands you like or at least something close and ask them to let you hit a few with their cues to give you an idea of the feel of the different cues. Or a billiards store if there is one close to you..

Not sure what your budget is but I can guarantee This cue hits better then a Lucasi or a Meucci. If your inerested let me know. If not thats fine good luck in your search, But honestly I can think of a few cuew I would rather have rather then a Lucasi or a Meucci and most likely in the same price range. If there's nothing wrong with your current cue, I wouldn't buy another one. Instead I would spend that money instead on table time or lessons. Although, a new cue can re-spark your interest in the sport.

If you're insistent on buying a new cue, my ranking list for you would be the Balabushka, Lucasi, then the Meucci dead last. I would even scratch the Meucci off the list. I own a Adam Balabusha and it's a very nice, solid hitting cue. It definitely hits more solid than the Lucasis I've tried.
 
Order a Meucci with a 13mm straight shaft. Hook up with a small dealer so you can get your best deal. :smile:
 
Do yourself a favor

Save up at least $500, and buy a Schon or have a cue maker make you
a Sneaky Pete or Plain Jane.

You don't buy a cue for looks, at least not a cheap cue, you buy it for playability. If you are into looks, then save up $2,500 or more, and then have a cue maker make you the cue of your dreams.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I think I'm gonna go with the Lucasi. I've still got some time to think about it though, it'll be a bit before I actually get a new cue. I also was not aware of those Bushka Style Lucasi's. Something else to look into.
