Looks like you are getting your pool movie....

i’m not in the industry but since you say that you are, as a writer, i will tell you that the term actress isn’t used any longer

director
doctor
lawyer
police officer
Given the Oscars still awards Best performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, I think it's safe to say the term is still used in the industry.

Is it possible DeNiro has caught the pool bug? Remember the barbershop in "Killers of the Flower Moon"? If one could not catch our disease in that place, ain't no where in this world one can. Think about it.

I remember such places in West Texas back in the '70s. I still dream about them.

Movie hasn't even started filming, and we, the pool community, are condemning it before it even gets started, some because of political reasons and others because it's the same-old hustling scenario representing pool. Good grief, man.

I do wonder who the technical director will be for the pool shots/training.
Certified coach.

I can’t get over the fact that people are mad that a fucking Oscar winner and one of the most iconic actors ever is in a pool movie. Delusional.

It's actually not delusional. I've said it for a long time, but Deniro is capable of being a horrible actor and all of his iconic roles are mostly due to great direction (usually with a great script behind them). He is the worst part of almost any comedy he has been in, and was even horrible in 'The Irishman'--I say that Scorsese was past his use-by date on that one and just wanted to give a bunch of his buddies a big payday. Watching that floater was one of the saddest cinematic experiences I've had.

The sad part is that Deniro now moves and talks like exactly what he is--an 82y/o man. His chicken shuffle in the Irishman when he went out to curb stomp the guy was ultra-cringy...and his character was supposed to be in his mid-thirties.

Jenna Ortega is 22 years of age and she had her breakthrough as a teen not too long ago and people want to say they love her work. LOL

I doubt anyone was watching her "breakthrough" movies.

She was a child Disney star.

I'm quite surprise of how many fans there are of her on AZB.

What movie was she good in? I looked up her filmography and I doubt you guys were watching the likes of Scream.
Wednesday, duh!

We all can bitch about it all day and still we'll all run to see it when it'll come out, even if it'll suck hahahaha
Yes, we are that hooked

Of course we'll watch, and we'll cling to the hope that the average viewer wants to play more pool after seeing it. It is certainly possible that this will be the result but, as I've noted, we don't know what this movie will look like. Personally, I think DeNiro's participation in the project is a big plus. There are many that will watch a film solely because he is in it.

Who really cares if new players come to the game? Seriously.

You think the movie will bring another Filler, Gorst, or Shane to the game? Why would you care, you won't watch the best in the world now.

Most of you complain if Filler and Shane play a race to 100 - none of you want to watch good pool so why would you care about the shots in a movie? You think the movie is gonna have better play than a race to 100 between the best in the world?

What worked in the 80s might not work today. I doubt that even if it's a mega hit, people will run into pool halls. I think that it's naive to think that.
The Queen's Gambit was a huge success. Chess got a bit more interest, but nothing life-changing.

Agreed. It is difficult to gauge how the public will react to a new pool movie. Perhaps it's delusional to think that many might take up the game, but it could happen.

What made The Queen's Gambit great for me was the emergence of a near impossible underdog. An institution had turned her into a drug addict, and, as a somewhat dysfunctional young woman. she kept beating the odds at the game of chess. Watching the people in her life, both inside and outside of chess, rally around her was heartwarming. The deck was stacked against her in every way, and even when she earned a spot in the world championship in Russia, she couldn't afford to go there until an old friend reappeared and gave her the money needed. Even when she got to Russia, as a woman, she was taken lightly, but even the grandmasters came to admire and understand her. Had it been chess or anything else, The Queen's Gambit got me rooting hard for underdog Beth Harmon, and it made the series climax incredibly satisfying.
