85* day, RH is in the upper 60's~low 70's....and when its like that, my simonis860 cloth seems to get loose side to side-wise on the table. Length-wise, its still tight. I know humidity will affect this, the table was set up last january when it was cold and dry....and when its cold and dry in the pool room, its fine....but on a nice day like this when I want to open windows & doors and hit some pool balls, the cloth is loose enough that the table really isn't playable.... Is it time to call the table mechanic and have him come tighten it up, or is it just one of those things I've got to learn to live with?!

Yes the high RH will relax the cloth, plus it relaxes a bit over the first year. Mechanic needs to come on a day of high RH for your area or home. Johnnyt

Cloth

That would happen on my table when installed by a local mechanic who stapled it, the last two times I had Diamond installers and they glued the cloth now it never moves and the table plays better with cloth glued.

Just for the record....The table plays better because it was stretched and indexed properly. Glued or stapled it will play great if done the correct way.

The Simonis on my 9' table is tacked/stapled.

One end of my table is near triple sliding glass doors and sometimes I have to open them up if I'm shooting with the cue ball frozen to the rail and I'm trying to shoot perpendicular (and I don't want to use shorty cue).
I live in Florida, and the humidity that comes in when I open those doors can feel like it's smackin' you upside the head... And I've left those doors open often enough to cause considerable humidity shift in the room.

My table slows down a bit, but my cloth never feels loose. I'd even say that my cue shaft seems to reveal the humidity change more than my Simonis cloth does... I'd agree with those who stated the OP should have his table mechanic come out and do the job properly. Even with staples, that should not be happening if it was pulled properly tight the first time around.

For me

Are there any negatives to gluing down the cloth?

I am not a mechanic but for me personally I will always have the cloth glued . I have had home tables since 1987 and all had the cloth stapled until the past 5 years, with the last two cloths being Glued. Maybe all the previous cloths were not stapled properly but the table plays better in my opinion now that the cloth has been glued. The real ans. would have to come from someone like RKC.

It's a lot easier to move (disassemble for reassembly) the table if the cloth is glued. You just peal it loose rather than remove a couple hundred staples. Our community center table is glued at the edges and stapled at the pockets. It took ten times as much time to unstaple the pockets as it did to peal the edges. Plus there's no/less chance of tearing the cloth.

I own a pool room and the Simonis cloth does loosen up due to humidity. However the way the cloth is installed might be the problem. I think you have to pull the cloth twice before either glueing it or stapling it down. It seems to me that pulling it twice stretches it a little better and when you get it right the table will play perfect.
