Pool Room seating

people mention house of billiards, it is nice, but a big thing (for me, depending on my mood), there is no real nice place to sit there. its almost like you have to rent a table to watch people play sometimes, at least i feel this way (and its something like 10 or 12 an hour at night, haha welcome to CA). hard times and danny k's this isnt a problem... hell, you could bring a video camera and tripod into hardtimes and tape a match if you really wanted.

I agree totally....it is great when a pool room is big enough to have a lot of comfortable seating for the players and the sweaters - and it totally sucks if your home pool room doesn't have this....

....I've gotten spoiled from all of my years hanging out at Chris's pool room in Chicago....for those of you who've never been there, the place is HUGE with 47 tables spread out in three large rooms, tons of room around the tables....the front/main/players room for example, has 15 tables, and there are anywhere from 4 to 6 large, comfortable, high-backed/arm-rested/foot-stooled chairs around every table - a great set-up for players, side-betters and sweaters....

....and yep, I hung around the House of Billiards recently for about 6 weeks and I enjoyed the players and action there, but like you said, the room is small and cramped with seating that sucks....another good players room that unfortunately has bad seating is Family Billiards in S.F. CA.

....I know they're are a lot more around the country, but two other pool rooms that I've played at that also have/had a truly great room design with plenty of room are : The California Billiard Club in Mountain View Ca. and C.J. Wiley's old pool room in Dallas.

Well the ticket are purchased I going out sunday morning and flying back the following friday. Looks like I'll be staying in Long Beach for the week so is there a good poolhall there to start my week in CA with?

I'm still working out the details with work but it looks like a go for next week. I'm hoping they will fly me out this Friday or saturday morning to give me some time to explore some poolhalls and I should be in LA until the following friday or saturday. I hope to run into some of you while I'm there.

Well the ticket are purchased I going out sunday morning and flying back the following friday. Looks like I'll be staying in Long Beach for the week so is there a good poolhall there to start my week in CA with?

danny k's has tournaments saturday & sunday at 1.... monday, tuesday, thursday ~7:30 pm. this room is fairly close to long beach and recommended because its safe and friendly. wayne norcross (not sure about his last name exaclty) runs the tournaments and hes an ex-pro strait pool player. there are huge tv screens there and sport fans come from all over to have a good time during all types of games.

Out of Yankee Doodles 40 tables 6 or 7 are covered in Simonis. They have a friendly Sat tournament that starts at 11:00 AM. BUT in Long Beach you are only 12 miles from Hard Times! Take 7th St. East to the 605 Frwy, you can only go North on the 605. About 10 miles and you take the 91 Frwy West(your left) to the 1st off ramp, Bellflower Blvd, and turn left under the frwy and go to the 2nd light, Ramona, turn left 25-30 yards into parking lot. Early this week Bustamante and "Hill Billy" Bryant were both there and they have an excellent Sunday tournament. It is an easy drive and a great room to either watch or play. The tournament room has raised bleachers all along one side. You really don't want to miss that pool experience.

Distance to Hollywood

From Long Beach, Hollywood is about 30 minutes out. Not sure of the quickest way but I think it would be 405 north, Harbor Fwy (110?) north, 101 north. Off at Hollywood Blvd, turn right. It will be on your immediate right.

On a Sunday afternoon, about 45 minutes. Take the 710 North to the 5 North to the 101 North to the Hollywood Blvd. exit. Turn right and it is only about two blocks down on the right side (South) of the street. You may have to park on the street because the parking lot may be full.
