Ray Martin posted on the recently thread which seems to have been deleted, giving his opinion on the usefulness of being taught the game vs the fundamentals OF the game. He agreed with the OP of the message, alot of people did. It was actually a fairly decent thread and an insight from a former world champ and legend of the game is priceless.

Except that thread was deleted, and with it the opinion and feedback from that pro was also casually thrown into the trash bin. What a loss, seriously, this type of thing is not replaceable. Imagine if people had Jack Nicholas taking the time to discuss such topics on a golf forum, and then imagine a moderator simply deleting the tread and all of Jack's input.

I know alot of people have their pitch forks in their hands, they have the noose ready and are ready to string up a certain poster because his opinion is seen as confrontational and he clearly likes posting threads that get reactions. But in the zeal to string him up and make an example we lost a truly useful post from a person that should NOT have their opinions and additions to the threads so flippantly deleted.

I go to click on the second page to see how the discussion with a world champ was going, and low and behold, "you don't have access to this"... yep, deleted. Ray Martin decides to take part in a thread that is both interesting and informative, and it gets deleted. Great, god forbid the internet manage to preserve the opinions and information that a legend of the game takes the time to offer, forget that, lets just delete it, just awesome...
 
I was also surprised to find that that thread was deleted for the same reason as Celtic. It was great to get the view point of Mr. Ray Martin even if the OP tends to hit things at an angle that others may not appreciate I don't think it was worth losing his insight.

Why are so many threads being deleted anyway? When a difficult situation shows up it's a chance to show your character. Sweeping it under the rug (deletion) kills that opportunity.
 
Booo!!!! Hisssss...

Bring back the thread. One of the reasons that I'm on this site is to learn from champs. Deleting posts that they make discourage them and therefore me from contributing here.
 
Pathetic...no wonder they don't want to participate.
They either get lambasted by a bunch of know-it-alls who haven't done shit in the pool world or their thoughts get deleted.

Either way I think it sucks.

My guess is that they are no longer up to the challenges of the job. Deleting is easiest for the mods, and the worst thing for our general membership and lurker community.

Thanks for that, it is great to see that the members of this forum will work to preserve the valuable gems that get posted from time to time.
 
I said in a recent thread that deleting threads & posts is a slippery slope...once you start, you don't know where to stop. It can become vindictive & abused by popular posters. This "tool" has been the death of many boards...I've seen it several times.

Once people get tired of seeing their posts (that take time & effort to draft & submit) being deleted frivolously...they leave.

Wake up Mods...we are on that trail into the sunset.

BTW, AZB web traffic is down 14% over the last month!
Also, time spent on the site is down 66%!!
Page views are down 56%!!!
Think that's just coincidence?!?!?

Been going on for a long time, I'm afraid.

Edit: Not so much due to the mods but the behavior on this forum really makes me wonder why I even bother anymore. I was over at onepocket.org the other day, whole different world.

Deleting threads should be a very last resort and used as a rare exception. Unfortunately, AZ does appear to be on the exact slippery slope you alluded to and losing traction, as we speak.

Speaking just for myself, I have found myself with less desire to post here lately. I won't go so far as to ascribe that to the increasing gay abandon with which threads are getting deleted, but it has had an impact -- I mean, why bother posting if what you write can just be whacked at someones whim (and whacked without explanation, at that).

I believe that it would be a poor, poor choice to try and keep every post and discussion on this board at the level of pablum. For the most part, people here are adults, contributors, and members of a community -- they are passionate about every aspect of pool and will disagree about shots, strategy, equipment, fundamentals, instruction, and anything else related to the game you can think of. And that is as it should be.

Actually I have been coming here less not because the mods were deleting things but I was totally fed up with all of the threads started by one particular poster. It was like a carpet bombing of ignorance because there were multiple threads started that seemed to have the single intent of inciting arguments. It was the dumbing down of AZB and I really just wanted to have no part in the discussions on those threads.
 
They can delete and do as they want. Their house their rules. I would be curious of only one thing. If we took all the deleted threads and posted who and how many times they posted in aforementioned thread a pattern would appear.

It's not scientific because that poster may not have been at the core of what caused the tread to become unacceptable....but it would probably statistically show something.

Just saying.

AZ can not satisfy everyone, All around it is a great forum. IMO

Lets face it, he has been a member for like 4 years and he has only posted a hand full of times with very little to say; most of his posts are one liners. There are tons of interesting threads on here everyday he could comments on and drop a pearl or two of wisdom but he chooses not to.
