This is for cue builders.
Low deflection shafts.
Newer type shafts have 1/2 inch ferrules.

What is the best ferrule material? (soft?)

What is the best diameter of the tenon? (1/4 ")

What is the best type of tip? (soft?)

If you was to build a low deflection shaft, How would you do it?

What about the shaft diameter & taper? (12.75mm / 12" to 15" pro taper?)

I have basic lathe. (Unique Products)
I can do basic shafts, from a partial blank shaft.
I would like to try a somewhat low deflection shaft.
Also, what about the length of the shaft? (I like 30" shaft)

I like the radial joint. Not that that matters.

later,
Sax

I dont think there is one right answer to your questions.
I'm experimenting with making my own LD shafts now, and I have to say that there is no magic involved in making a LD shaft.
Short ferrule of a fairly light material like Juma, make sure the walls of your ferrule is thick enough, so you dont run into Predator type problems. I thread mine with 18 TPI.
My shafts gonna have a 12mm tip diameter and I hollow out the shaft about 10cm down and fill with Gorilla glue.

Tenon shoukd be at least 3/8 b/c you're going go drilll a 1/4 hole by 5" deep .
Juma is heavy. Mason Micarta is lighter and more durable.
Use carbon fiber pad.
Good luck.

Low deflection shafts.
Newer type shafts have 1/2 inch ferrules. Not Mine

What is the best ferrule material? (soft?) High Action (Softer)
I need to clarify that the softer ferrule is best for low deflection. But not the best ferrule in all aspects. I quit playing with them when the tables started going to faster cloth.

What is the best diameter of the tendon? (1/4 ") 5/16-18 threaded

What is the best type of tip? (soft?) Medium Triangle

If you was to build a low deflection shaft, How would you do it? Tight grain maple with above items.

What about the shaft diameter & taper? (12.75mm / 12" to 15" pro taper?) 12.75MM 12 Inch semi pro taper.

Well that was the polite way of saying that you have seen predator tenons look like the only thing holding them together was the bird droppings.

My impression is that Predator shaft are under-engineered and I would love to know their return percentages.
I gladly add a few grams of front weight, for peace of mind.
