LP Custom Cues

I am thinking of ordering a custom cue for the first time, and have noticed that LP Custom Cues comes up in conversation quite often. I have seen the raffles for designing your own custom cue, and would like to know if any of those AZers would care to share their experiences, or post pics of the cues they have won. I have yet to see any feedback regarding these cues, and would like to learn more before I choose. Seems like a novel idea. I may just try to win my custom.

I was in your shoes a few months ago, til last month that is. I won a custom PJ from Lee and he has been very helpful to this noob with the design. Everything from the wood combination to the tip choices and some basic questions.

I can't wait until I start to get the pictures of the progress.

If I were you I would get in on his monthly raffles and see if you win one. You can always look out for one in the for sale section.

Coming from the an unlucky raffler, I would just spend the cash and buy one. Also, check out the cue review section I'm sure I've seen some reviews on Lee's cues there.

Ordered mine a month ago. He had several forearms ready to go, so I chose one, which was very close to my ideas for a cue. I jumped on it, thinking it may speed up the process. Hope to see pics in the next couple months of the progress.

I was hoping to see some pics of recent work. I noticed that there are 12 winners this year, going back to March. Please share your experiences and pics

I won one of the raffles, Lee sent me some pics of the forearm. I am waiting on completion.. will post pics and a review then. I can say Lee is Very knowledgeable when it comes to making cues, and u can easily tell looking at the fit and finish of all his cues. To me u can tell when someone takes great pride in what they do.. It just shows in their work. Well everyone has an opinion, this is mine. maybe you should just give him a call. Hope this helps. -B

Hi Juggernaut74...I was lucky enough to have won a 4 pointer from one of those design your own raffles in mid September and it's due to be finished in March- April 2011. Lee does some really nice clean work and to this point I've received two forearm shots. In another couple of months I'm expecting the full cue shots as he does a great job in taking the time to slowly cut the cue to size to make sure the wood stays stable and your cue ends up being a great player. If you want to see some of his completed work you can search the forum or look at his website where he has a lot of really good examples of his work, work in progress as well as snapshots of available building component options. www.lpcustomcue.com

I'm attaching the pics he sent me. One is representative of the cue's long wide points but had a bit of a reddish tint to the photo and the other is more true to the color of the work in progress.

It's a hoppe cue with 4 ebony veneered points into an aged, I believe American, rosewood forearm.

I have a cue comeing from a raffle I won in June. I had pictures sent to me of my forearm a while back and the pictures were up close and looked good . But the raffle says the build can take up to 6 months for completion and that would put me about the first of the year so I will have to wait till then to post pictures. He has a gallery of cues completed and ones in progress on his website. Contact info is on there as well...

Hi, from what you have all told, everyone has a forearm pic, and no idea about the cue's progress. Were these forearms built to your spec? Some have said existing stock. Anyone have a cue to talk about?

I have built over 75 cues for AZers.
There are reviews in the cue review section.
If you post this question in the review section, you will get the
answers your looking for.

Thanks
Lee

The people that said they have cues made from existing stock were taking advantage of pre-built forearm offerings from Lee that could be customized further for very reasonable initial prices.

My cue from Lee's raffle is being built to my specs with Lee's advice on what he believes it will take to create the hit I want with the materials available from the options on the raffle and those in his possession. On the raffles, you can definitely add to what Lee offers and get exactly what you are looking for, but you will have to pay to go off the raffle specs list which is only fair considering how much he allows for up front. I found what I wanted without going off the raffle specs. I just wanted a nice clean looking hoppe style cue with some color. Feel free to contact him if you have any questions. Lee's great to work with and very knowledgeable.

I'll hopefully be posting a review of my LP cue soon. I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas morning.

I'll probably get mine after Christmas so its a belated present to myself.

LP cues are a hot commodity. I doubt you'll find too many used ones for sale and that says a lot. I have only good things to say about the cues
and craftsmanship. Not knocking other cue makers but I happened to find the ones I like to play with for a decent price so I'm staying where I like it.
And I'm a picky SOB, if I buy a cue and don't like it, its gone tomorrow.

I just put a deposit down for one of Lee's cues. I have no idea when it will be done, but I'm looking forward to receiving it and giving it a try.

PS. I should mentioned that finalizing the cue details went smoothly. Mine was simple so it just took a couple of PMs back and forth. Time was not a major issue for me since I have other cues so I didn't really ask for a delivery date.

Lead time estimates and communication with all these posters seems to be somewhat of an issue. If I spend money, I would wish to be contacted periodically. None of these guys know anything about the status of their recent orders, to a man. Going to look elsewhere. Have had several recommendations, and will followup on them.

For me at least I am satisfied with the communications I have received so far. I should re-edit my posts and state that finish time wasn't a concern for me so I didn't really ask for a final delivery date. I have more than one cue so time wasn't a priority for me. Once we finalized through PM on what I wanted I put the required deposit down, he said he'll get started and I haven't pursued it since. For me I only decided last week to try a LP Custom I'm satisfied with his response thus far.

Are the blind faithful, not seeing what I saw in just the first few posts? Initial communications are fine, as long as the sale is in process. What about 3 months, 6 months later? Everyone says the same thing. They seem clueless. Do the math. Over 7K just in raffle sales this year, and no completed cues posted. Hello? 100% up front. Like I said in earlier posts, a novel idea for the average guy to try to win one. But a method of doing business? Most cuemakers do not require 100%, and most keep their customers feeling like customers, not keeping them in the dark.

I wasn't required to put down 100%. I put a small deposit of $275. I already saw the completed forearm so at least I know its not just an idea still. I don't know about the others who bought, but this is just a sample try out for me. If I like the process in the end and the cue hits well and has good fit and finish than I would consider getting another full LP Custom of a design I've been wanting to have built for me for a while. If not, I'll try a different cue maker. So far I only have $275 invested so if you are right and it all goes bad I'll be the first to post back with my experience. I've bought a few cues here on AZB that cost over $2000 with minimal interaction other than a few PMs back and forth to get the details worked out. So we'll see how it goes I guess.
