LP Custom Hoppe Style Cue

Got a ring at the door this morning, no it wasn't Jehovah's witnesses this time, instead it was a very well packed triangular box with some precious contents leaning at my door side and a mailman running back to his truck. I'm so psyched at getting my contest cue from Lee. I can't wait to get to a table to try it out on a few dozen racks. Below are pictures of the design I sent to Lee on my contest win and the finished pictures of my cue.

I'd like to thank Mr. Lee Peppers for holding all of his contests, giving AZers repeated chances at winning really well made cues of our own designs, when outright commissioning a custom cue wasn't really a possibility for some of us. I'd also like to thank Lee for being so honest and responsive in working with me on this build. He's a great guy to work with and if you are ever lucky enough to work with him on a cue you can definitely count yourself one of the lucky ones.

Thanks again for a great customer experience and cue!

Kevin

Hope you guys enjoy the pictures! I couldn't be happier with this build.

Specs:
Ebony closely grouped points into a fairly dark American rosewood(looks kind of close to purple heart)
58" from end of butt plate to end of ferrule
3/8 x 10 .308 Titanium Flat bottom pin with a stainless flat faced joint.
Juma Hoppe Ring - looks great!
Cream with Blue spec wrap -way better looking than I even thought it would be when I requested it. Really well pressed too.
Butt weight is 15.7 and is naturally weighted without a bolt from what I can see behind the push in bumper.
shafts are both full 13 mm at the tip end of the ferrule, 3.8 and 3.9 ounces (I asked for shafts with a little character in their grain as I really like the way shafts like that tend to play. The honey color and the tap tone resonance of these shafts sounds great)
The balance point is somewhere between 19.5 and 20.5 inches.

After I get to hit more than a cue ball across the lounge end of my couch with it I'll add more info on the hit. Yes I actually did do that, lol and yes it did have a really satisfying sound and feel. Even in this sad and silly test situation I could hear that really nice ping and feel how well balanced this cue is.

Very nice! I love Hoppe style cues. Cool color scheme too. The veneers really pop out against the dark points and dark forearm.

Congrats on the new cue.

I got an LP coming too soon. Too bad he is getting out of the business, he is one of the good guys.

That is a great looking cue. Great choices made on this cue.

Thanks for sharing,

Thanks everybody!

Thanks so much for all the nice comments about Lee's work. In case you couldn't tell from my first post, I'm really happy with my new cue.

Ok...mini-review....I got to a table to try it out and IMHO it hits great. It has a fairly stiff and solid feeling, old school hit with surprisingly good feedback for a stainless jointed big pin cue. I really like how both shafts ping and how well this cue moves the CB around with even just a soft to medium stroke. The action on the ball is directly proportionate to the stroke applied. Overall this is a great playing cue and I'm really happy I got lucky enough to win it.

I just wanted to say thanks for posting the "design" pics as well as the finished cue...I really enjoy seeing something that went from a 2-dimensional design idea into the 3-dimensional finished product! Thanks!

Jason

I know this is out of build order but here are some pics from the initial steps of this build. Would you think the forearm would finish out this dark and rich in color based on seeing these pics? I know I didn't but I sure am happy about it.

Sweet looking Hoppe.

Congratzzzzzzzzzzzzz, great looking cue. Lee does an outstanding job. I love the look. Enjoy it.

*****Update******

I finally got to hit with regulation size balls on a regulation size table and this cue hits great. IMO it feels like a full spliced cue and it's half splice construction. Lee's joining technique really locks the pieces together and transfers energy well. This cue can really move the ball around effortlessly and is a lot of fun to use. I really love the feedback of this cue which is a deep subtle vibration to your grip hand. I also really like the shaft wood choice as well as the taper which has proven to be solid hitting and stiff but with a lot of feel to it. As stiff as the shafts are in Lee's modified pro taper or aggressive pro taper they sure put out a very predictable and appropriate amount of spin for the effort put in.

Lee really did right by me in building my cue and I'm so glad I already have another one on his list for next year. I know this one is going to get a lot of table time as it just feels so good and well balanced to use.

Thanks again Lee for building such a sweet playing and looking cue!

I'm also happy to hear that Lee's going to continue building cues beyond the orders he currently has agreed to complete. Right on Lee! Keep up the great work!

Kevin

Congrats on your new cue - it looks to be perfectly done and it's nice to see you so proud. I'm glad the experience was nice for you.
Thanks for sharing the pictures of your cue.

Hi Mike. Thanks! The Ferrules are LBM and the tips are Moori Mediums(the good ones that don't glaze over as fast as some of the newer ones do).

Thanks for updating this thread.

It really is a great looking cue. I love the colors, and those "fat" points.

Thanks Josh!

Lee sure does a great job on creating those sweet fat points which touch so nicely at the base of the outside veneers. I really love playing with this cue. It also really amazes me how well he did on matching the woods including the honey colored sugary shafts and veneers to my drawing as well as the hit to what I requested. I still can't get over how both shafts feel equally good to shoot with. I usually when getting a cue with two shafts end up immediately preferring one over the other but not this time.

If you see this Lee, Thanks again!!! Can't wait to see how raffle cue 2 comes out. If it's anything like this one my stable of playing cues is going to just get stronger and the decision on which to play with even harder...We should all have problems like that!

Peace!
Kevin
