Lube for your shaft

So after the fiance and I had some...adventures I realized how smooth and silky silicone based lubricant feels on the fingers and thought...."Could I use this for my pool cue...?"

Anybody else try or think this might work? Also don't want to damage the shaft...I play with a predator 314-3 so it is laminated...maybe I'll just come out with a product line "Rock's Cue Lube!"

Disclaimer: Do not use water based lubricant on your shaft! At least the one attached to your cue!

I wouldn't put silicone lube on either of my shafts.

A friend of mine did that to his cue. It raised the grain within minutes, it's a terrible idea.

I use Cue Silk on all of my cues and I have a bottle of Silky Hands that I've used once or twice.

Thanks Dave! I have used Cue Silk in the past, just tryin to find a "household" solution if you know what I mean.

Say, Dave? Could he use Cue Silk with his fiance? Kinda like two birds with one stone...as it were.

A tiny tiny bit of baby powder works pretty good for me. Never silicone or water based products.....

Q Glide looks/feels like silicone based lube, but I have no idea what's actually in it... works great though!

I'm sure it would be great to have that stuff all over the balls and table.

I used to work in a pool hall throughout high school and one day while I was racking the balls for two old guys playing 15-ball rotation pool, I noticed one of the guys was using some sort of yellow cloth to wipe his cue and I asked him what it was. He told me it was a silicone cloth he had bought from a fishing/outdoor supply store down the road.

I tried his cue (he was using a house cue) and it was so slick I could barely hold on to it. I immediately bought one of those cloths when I next drove past the place that sold them. I used it for many years and still have one in my bag. The cloth I have now is not my original one, but it is at least 25 years old and all the "whatever it is" that made the cue slick is now worn out of the cloth.

I haven't bought one in decades, so I don't know if they still are the same stuff as when I bought mine. I do know I've used it on my McDermott shaft ever since 1985 and my shaft is still as good as new. It didn't raise the grain or do anything to harm my shaft that I know of. I always used the cloth to wipe my shaft down and clean it, then I used a clean towel to wipe and buff it. Everybody used to be amazed at how super slick my shaft was.

The cloths today may do the same thing. Somebody who already has one for their guns may choose to try it and let us know how it works for them. It looked like the one in the link below.

Aloha.
