Magic Ball Rack protective film???

FWIW i have the original version, and it came with a film like a new appliance would. And it came off just as easy. Im sure theyll fix the problem with the new ones. My advice is, give it some time. Its worth it. Big O just put on his FB that "what we need is tight pockets and a magic rack" or something like that. If its got his endoresment then its got mine.

Just saying

My advice is... send it back and get the newer version.....

At $15 for the 3-piece set, it isn't worth my time/effort to send them back. I have taken Mr. Griffin's advice and started using them just as they came, so far with no ill effects. IF there is a film on them, oh well, I have already noticed a SIGNIFICANT difference in my full-rack (8-ball) break!!! I have never had a problem with making balls from a rack of 9-ball so I can't tell if there is much improvement there, except I am going to start "monitoring" the balls and see if there is a pattern of making the same ball in the same pocket.

Like I said before, nice product w/suckie instructions :p!!!

The wing ball in the corner is definitely more consistent with the MR - on my table anyway.

Well, I finally waited long enough for the price to go down :embarrassed2:, so I purchased a Magic Ball Rack set (two 9/10-ball and one 8-ball/full rack) from Seybert's for $15.

I remember seeing a thread/posts that touched upon the film you have to peel off of the MBR before using it. I did a search and could not find exactly what I was looking for.

FTR, the MBR's I received are a glossy black on the top side (assuming that this is the top side because I can read the logo this way), and a flat black on the bottom side. The instructions for the two 9/10-ball racks say to "remove the protective film from one side of the MBR", while the instructions for the 8-ball/full rack mention absolutely nothing about any protective film although it appears to be identical in every way (except for the shape) of the 9/10-ball racks. I tried lifting a protective film (which may or may not be there) off of one of my 9/10-ball MBR's with cellophane packaging tape with no success.

I remember there being "old style", 2nd generation, and possibly an even newer version. Some posts said that the newest version has no protective film on them. I do not know what "version" of MBR's I have and if they even have a protective film on them. It is confusing to say the least.

Great product, but the instructions are severely lacking. IF there is a protective film on one side of these racks, wouldn't it have been prudent for the instructions to have said if it is the glossy or flat black side that has the film?

Can somebody help me with this before I bugger-up one of my new MBR's?

On my original sets with the greenish film (9 and 10 ball sets) - I had a hell of a time getting the edge up, so I tried this: I run a sharp angle end of the MR under a stream of hot water from the faucet - a good minute or two after it gets hot. The film easily lifts after that with a fingernail. The water isn't hot enough to hurt the Magic Rack, just softens the adhesive a little.
