Spent some time with the Magic Chalk last night just to see what I really thought about it.... Have to say it's good chalk... How good I am not sure yet.... I intend to do Dr Dave's test using a phenolic tip so that the tip will have very little to do with the test and it will be all about the chalk... I can tell you just in a quick test Magic Chalk was neck and neck with the Kamui .98 and both faired better than our Great White.....

I never designed the Great White to go 100 shots between chalking... I made the formula to feel the way I wanted AND perform... So maybe I am OK if we end up 3rd.... I said MAYBE!!!! LOL

I am missing lava, predator and NIR so it may be a week or so before I do the test... It will be long and boring because I will film the whole thing so noone thinks I am fudging....

RJ...... I still call BS on it being made in Russia but I may not call complete BS on Dave's test going forward... It may have been a combination of percentage or micron size AND Humidity.....

If you haven't tried the Magic Chalk it's worth a look.. Buy 2 get one free is a better deal than we offer but we won't make your hand look like you made friends with a smurf in the men's room at the pool hall :eek:

I haven't tried Magic Chalk, but it's refreshing to hear a manufacturer praise the competition.

I received some magic chalk last week. I have a McDermott Stinger j/b with the phenolic tip. I've found that the magic chalk does not stick very well to this. In fact, master chalk stick better. However, on a leather tip - I use UltraSkin PRO - it sticks great and the shot count between chalking seems to be pretty accurate.
 
I have Magic Chalk, and a few cubes of the great white chalk, but have to admit I have not tried the white chalk yet even though you gave a few cubes free to my son. Probably due to the fact that the pool hall I play in most often would kick me out if I used white chalk on his tables LOL

He goes after anyone using a different color chalk or powder :) There was a guy that started to play in our league, he used the lighter green chalk instead of blue, he quit coming to league because he was told he could not use his chalk and the owner would not back down.
 
Chris, I appreciate the friendly competition. Folks use chalk for various reasons, and what works best for them. Neither one of us is gonna sell chalk to the non league or non tournament player. But that's OK, Masters will get them through ;)

I don't think OB gets upset that they compete with Predator, there should be enough pool players to make sales to everyone. And as much as both products are good in their own ways, it's OB's customer service that made me try their cue when I decided to give LD a shot. And I've been a fan ever since.

Magic Chalk's strength is in staying on the tip, thus much less chalk on the cue ball, unlike BD and Kamui. Skids are just as bad as miscues for pool players, and lot of chalk on the cue ball is not good for either player.

And you do NOT get smurf hands with MC.... that is a symptom from using Kamui :p Stuff is just messy imho. Good chalk, yep. Expensive and messy. Yep. But some folks love it, and that's fine with me. If it dont' bother them, it don't bother me.

You have quite a loyal following that you have built up with great products and good customer service. And I don't need your loyal fans, I need the "other" guys loyal fans ;)


I recently had a person buy MC and absolutely loved it. He said he was going to get chalk from you and rate them both on AZB. I actually told him not to do it, as I didn't want to start a "chalk war" with me and you. And that I was not here to stop you from selling your stuff. I can't remember his name, but maybe he will post here if he see's this thread.

But the part of being made in Russia, well, lets just say there is nothing proving otherwise ;) It was made there, then it moved to Ukraine, due to ease of getting ingredients and something to do with shipping and labor costs. Higher unemployment in Ukraine ??

Of course, if someone can prove MC is not made in Russia or a former Russian controlled territory, they get a $10K reward, paid by the United Chalk Federation plus free chalk for life provided by Great White :p

I wish it were made in the USA, that's kind of a bonus thing you got that I don't. So, enjoy that perk (while it lasts) ;)

And yes, I do want to try one of your tips. So, give me the "chalk buddy" discount and send her out ;)

Can you include Blue Diamond in your test too? I've been using Blue Diamond and Magic Chalk recently and like both. Tests tell me that Magic Chalk is the better of the two, but something about the way Blue Diamond goes on I like a little better. I never go more than a few shots without chalking so as long as it's good for that long it's usually enough for me.

Was playing in my first league night the other day and used some of the Masters that was on the table...didn't like it at all, just felt weird going on my tip, though admittedly it worked fine.

Will have to try the Great White sometime....not sure how I feel about white chalk though....

Chris, did you note the extra abrasive feel in magic chalk compared to great white our Kamui? In my unofficial experimentation, I noticed the tip holding its shape longer with great white and Kamui. Magic chalk worked well, but still wore down the tip over time utilizing the swiping chalking technique, no grinding.

Never had one person in 2 years have this problem, so it might be your tip. I use a Kamui super soft, and I've had it for at least 2 years on my regular player.
 
Well, you guys got me, I am going to order some. What is the best place to order from? I see it on ebay for $10.75 and free shipping.

Kamui black soft is the tip I used. It's great chalk RJ, never had a miscue. But I'm a chalk every shot person, and I remember folks saying they chalk once every rack with magic chalk, not every shot.

Magic chalk is my chalk of choice on my break cue, playing with a Kamui black hard tip.

The Kamui and great white do have a more creamy feel to them and magic chalk has that classic abrasive feel (as does predator and masters).

I remember Chris mentioning that different brands of chalk utilize different size abrasives in the formula to create the friction needed.

It's all very interesting.
 
I never thought I'd be endorsing another Chalk after trying
Blue Diamond early on. It has been my Chalk-o-Choice for quite
a while. My only complaint is the residue left on the Balls.

Then, a friend gifted me a piece of Magic Chalk (2 mos. ago).

I am totally impressed with the Performance and Cleanliness
of this Chalk. Easily worth $5 @ Cube, IMO. Now, I'm working
on not chalking after each shot.

I haven't tried your chalk yet but Magic Chalk is the best chalk I've come across. IMO, performance is great, and the length of time it stays on the tip is great, but what really won me over was the fact it's not messy. Your hands don't get stained and less chalk gets put on the table.

Once i tried it, I contacted RJ and started buying in bulk. I've sold around 50 boxes and have yet to have any negative feedback. The strongest resistance I get is from the "chalk is free" guy who doesn't care what he uses anyways.

I can't keep anything on the stinger and have found I'm just not a fan of phenolic tips. To get some chalk on it make sure to use the swipe method not the fire starting method. You will get it chalked but don't plan it still being chalked after one break. I've given up on phenolic tips and just sticking to hard leather.

Edit: I love Magic Chalk and it would be hard to win me over. I previously used 1080 and to me it's the same if not better and I don't come home with a blue hand. That being said you got the rack game on lockdown Chris. :) I'll be shooting you a message about getting a few tips soon.

Chris, I can mention a couple of points, in my opinion obviously.

I imagine that you have either tested or are going to soon anyway.

Lava is crap.

I haven't tried NIR that I remember.

Altho Predator applies well and holds for a few shots, it will not out shine Diamond or Magic. It is a ton better than Masters but that is all I can say.

For the price, a person is better off with Diamond, Magic and most likely Great White.

Most likely as I haven't had a chance to try yours out yet but will soon as I figure it is a gooder and worth having.

I think of it this way. A person is so meticulous on everything pool equipment. Decent cue and decent cases to house them.

Buying extra shafts, changing ferrule material to suit their style better. Most times, no holds barred on the cost of tips.

And then, using crap chalk on the end of it all.

Thats like having a hot street car and putting Regular Gas in it. Having a decent hunting rifle, and then using cheap economy shells in it. Spending a ton of money on fishing equipment, (I know about that one), and then cheaping out on a filleting knife and sharpener.

Can make comparisons like that all day long, right.

In your opinion, would you agree that for a small or large part, your game to a certain extent, will only be as good as your equipment and the chalk that you use.

I mean, I know people that can play with cheap equipment and also play off the wall. So that really isn't a huge point.

But, you have heard dressing for success. Same as pool. Buying equipment for success.
