Magic Rack to be used at US Open?

It's not like Renfro doesn't know Mr. Flemming, either, who has just a bit of involvement with making this whole US Open actually happen.... :p

MR, 9 on spot, 4" x 4" break box, must break hard... works. It worked too good the MC they used. Johnnuy

Use whatever template you want. I as a spectator could care less. Magic Rack, Renfro's Rack, the Chinese Rack, I don't care. I simply can't stand the re-rack, re-rack, that ball's not touching bullshit that's common when they use a conventional diamond rack. The Sardo rack was a monstrosity but at least nobody complained endlessly about the rack. Rack and break. Life is too short to waist time re-racking balls to the end of time.

I will only post one comment. All the reasons the Sardo Rack was put down are the same reasons why the templates will also eventually be put down. The templates actually make a bad situation worse. Someday, the poolplaying industry will realize that the problem is not, and has never been the rack, but is actually the ball on the break. That is an easy fix. That is all I have to say.

This argument about the Magic Rack seems odd to me. Let's cover the basics.

1) The proclaimed IDEAL situation when racking is that all balls touch each other.
2) If the Magic rack achieves this objective then the IDEAL has been achieved.
3) If the IDEAL has been achieved what's the problem?

People complaining about a properly formed rack amazes me. ...

I for one am sick and tired of watching a match and having five minute racking arguments happening on every rack.

I agree with all of the above.

Johnny, the break box at the 2013 Mosconi Cup was about a foot wide (half a foot to each side of center).

not to derail from the OP - but what i caught from the Release, was the fact that he's pre-selling 800 tickets, for a hotel that has 468 rooms.

and the hotel isn't locked-down till 30 days out.

and it was issued on APRIL FOOL'S.

which is coincidentally, Barry's birthday.

Placing the 2-ball in the back will make it a bit more unpredictable for the pattern rackers. .

Make it "loser racks" and the winner has to fade whatever "pattern" the racker positions the balls in.

Kind of like baseball, where the batter is down for the count and "has to swing".

You do what you "have to do". DEAL WITH IT!

Then let the decision come down to this....

China open played on Chinese pool tables with made-in-China magic rack.....

US Open should be played on American diamond tables with made-in-USA AccuRack from Outsville

On a side note, the material that the AccuRack is made out of is more similar to the cloth than the plastic magic rack. I've been rewatching the AccuStats 8 ball invitational tournament on DVD, and marveling at the zero clusters given by the rack and the unchanged paths of balls slow rolling over the template after the break. The Accu Rack is definitely more advanced IMO

Amazes me that people still think like this, in 2015. The Accu-Rack is the better product, and that should be the only consideration, regardless where it was made.

The only problem I have with the template racks is when I see the 9 ball almost leave the rack and then reverse back to middle of the rack because it could not roll over smoothly.

The material choice and the geometry of the cueouts pretty much lock the object balls into specific paths on the magic rack... tehy tried Barry's plan at Mosconi a few years ago and had to abandon it because of all the breaks that didn't meet the head string requirment becuase balls were locked into kisses regardless of the speed... Will seriously be lobbying on this one because we do not have that issue.....

Will you have a table with your rack setup at SBE to compare? I'm a MR user and would like to see how yours works if there are differences. Plus I want to stop by and say thanks for making the KiTech tips, I love mine and it's turned into my go-to recommendation for a tip.

I don't see the problem here. The magic rack doesn't have any dead balls when the nine is racked on the spot. Some people say you can still make the 1 in the side but that is extremely difficult and if you can do it then you're the better player and deserve to win. I watched a lot of the matches last year and everyone was struggling with the break. I didn't see anyone who consistently made the same ball every time. Some people just had stronger breaks than others and the balls spread more and randomly fell. Whether you rack the 9 on the spot with or without the magic rack it shouldn't make much difference except speeding things up and avoiding these rack arguments we always see.

If pattern racking is a concern then they could easily determine a new set pattern to be racked prior to the beginning of each new round that the players are required to rack during that round of play. If it's really that big of a concern there are many ways around it.

I can promise you there will be dry breaks if they use the Accu-Rack and not the Magic Rack... You miss hit the break or over power it or under power it it the balls behave properly.....

Too big a foot print when left on the table, and yes I bought one to compare

The U.S. Open is not the Shane Van Boening show, in spite of what some might think, and rightfully should not take his streak into consideration when deciding on the format.

I been with Shane when the switch the rules on the breaks and in a short period of time he figures it out

It amazes you that advocating for the accu rack which is made in America to be used in the U.S.open? Then you are easily amazed.

Every WPA points tournament that uses a template, uses magic rack. So why not advocate for Chris Renfro's (and faithful az member) invention?
And to gather support, seal the deal with the "made in America" fact.

And in case you haven't noticed, in 2015 the United States is in a serious trade deficit with China, we import more than we export to that country. So buying made in America any chance you get is a benefit, especially in a high profile world calibre tournament which would give Outsville some great PR and sales boost.

None of the professional players have complained and just got a review from Jayson Shaw with a big thumbs up...

The rack is neutral so even if it alters a super slow rolling ball it's only going to screw you everytime if your karma says for it to. For me it's going to be 50/50 most days, some days 100% just depends on how mean I was to dogs and old people that day.....

The diamond 9 is also our new 9ball design and has a smaller foot print than our old design.....

Will have them in the booth with the worst set of balls I can find so you can compare.....

Just for the guys that said there were no problems... If you don't want to watch the whole thing again because it's painfull just go to an hour and 41 minutes into the 3rd vid down.. and that's happened several times even at different speeds... When balls do not alter paths with different speeds Barry is asking for problems......
