Who here is using it and do others have a problem getting other players to use it. At the room I play, some are saying its cheating??? Why getting a perfect rack is cheating, I'm not sure. Why people want to deal with 9's off the break or slug racks, I don't understand.

This thing is giving me a perfect rack every time on tables that don't rack that good. I guess some are happy spending $150 on racks that still won't freeze the balls. Maybe $10 is just too cheap and what they mean is, its stealing.

I've been using a Magic Rack for @ 6 months. We keep one at the pool hall for the regulars to use. We have introduced it to many players. Without fail, people walking by will look at it and give the WTF look. Anyway, I've seen many people's 1st reaction as saying "doesn't it create roll-off?" as an initial reaction. Then "you just leave it there?". But after they try it, and get used to rolling the balls into the holes, they love it. I hadn't seen one player say they dislike it. Not a one.

That being said, on a good table, 9 ball can be perceived to become too easy. No one can dispute that we make more balls on the break with a Magic Rack. They just splatter so sweetly!

Soooo.... We play a lot more 10 ball.
 
This will kinda sound crazy , but the best rack I have used is the Mueller standard rack, I get a great rack every time,, plus its only like $5 bucks..

The 'Mueller rack' racks better than sardo ,and for sure any wooden rack Ive tried ....
I never tried the magic rack it looks chincy ,and I like an occasional 9 off the snap..

I say, for every day use the old wood rack is hard to beat. It has a certain charm to it.
Back in the day, when you finished your game you tapped your cue on the wooden floor (that's why they have bumpers, don't you know) and the guy would come over and re-rack the balls for you. He sometimes wore the rack around his neck, or on the crook of his arm. And the grape Nehi was ice-cold.
I would opt for the new mechanical racks for tournament play.
 
I bought a Magic Rack last week and think its the nuts. Making balls on the break was never easier in both 9 & 10 ball and that makes the game more fun. No more sluggos !!!!!!!

Good points Tramp. But, if you (meaning any pool enthusiast) hadn't tried the Magic Rack, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. If it was good enough for the World 10 Ball Championship recently held in the Phillipines (won by that trophy hog Mika ;) ) then it's gotta be good!

I expect to see it used in more and more majors.

I bought a few and gave them to a some of the better playes here to get their opinon. and everyone I have had use it, that understands it likes it not one complaint, especially when you are playing on 60 plus year old tables that have had years worth of Idiots baging a hole in the slate and the head ball will not stay on the spot. Yes the wing ball goes, so what on a good nine ball rack it should.
After the break its up to the shooter to make the rest happen and if you can't shoot, then the rack is just one more excuse that you can't use when you use the magic rack. for those that are complaining about it, then they just don't get and never will.

For those who are not even willing to put out $10, here is a free sample you can make yourself. You need a printer and a hole punch. Be careful when printing to select "no scaling" or "100% scaling" or the size won't be right.

Free Nine Ball Template

Print only the page you need, which is probably the one labeled "56mm". In the US, some office supply stores (Office Max, Office Depot?) will print from the internet. They can also print onto mylar sheet, but that's going to cost more.

The commercial product looks like it is designed better with the shaped holes (and 10-ball option), but the plain round holes work well enough for a test.

Ours is @ 6 months old and I see no reason it can't last years as long as no one mistreats it.

I don't know of any folks here "using" it, but I'd think that's a fairly private matter to question in a public forum, no? Yes, some say this method is "cheating," but then again, do you think differently of those that opt for a more permanent method of "cheating" a few cup sizes with a saline implant procedure?

I've used it and it is very nice.

I was looking at it very closely, trying to see how it works. It does a great job, even with old sets of balls that are mismatched in size. What I've come up with is that the balls are actually at different heights from the bed of the table. This is what allows them to always be frozen to each other.

The diamond shaped "hole" that the balls sit in is what allows the height differences. Being diamond shaped, makes the ball ride up or down slightly as it moves along the diamond.

Not stating this as fact, just the way I think it works. I don't think it would work if the holes for the balls were exact circles of a small diameter, even if they were in the exact position they needed to be in.
 
I used it and am going to buy it from Troyroy very soon. As soon as the 8-ball one is ready, I am all over it! It is the best damn thing that would give you a tight rack and very portable!

How many racks a day does it get used? It could last years if it were ...welll....I know mine won't last.its too flimsy.

Get ready for the new Magic Ball Rack Pro

The new Pro edition of the rack will be available in Mid January

I have addressed durability issues, and the new product will last much much longer.

Also the new MBR 8 ball version will be released soon, this rack will be able rack for all games 8,9 and 10

I will be attending Valley Forge this year to showcase the products, i look forward to meeting any AZérs if they are going

I'd say it's logged 30 hours of play a week for 6 months. That's @ 1000 hours. If the players on it avg 7 minutes a rack, that's a mo fo'in boat load of rackaroos. I looked at it closely yesterday for wear, and it has some minor crimps here and there, but it still lays pretty darn flat on the table with NO balls resting on it.

The death of a Magic Rack would probably be someone picking it up improperly and pinching it so it puts a permanent fold in it. Or perhaps spilling a nasty beverage on it that affects its shape.
