Making another SW shaft

I try to look at things as a buyer verses a seller. I can sell a cue with extra shafts, especially if they are shafts by the cuemaker.

I seem to do okay with predator shafts, but with a Southwest, I dont think the shaft will pay back.

yeah i am thinking of a pred shaft, and its probably gonna cost more than a shaft from laurie. i dropped the idea of getting another maker do the shafts, from a prev post that apparently Mr Alhambra missed cos most probably the taper will be different from an actual SW shaft

i think for the pred shafts it would cost ard 300 bucks to get a predator partial, shipped to a cuemaker, and making matchin ring. i would also have to send my butt over to get a close fit.

just considering the figures.

Well Chris,

The truth is, i tried contacting her. and my queries for cue authentication, request to made shafts, etc is not replied since last year. Call is a last resort due to time differences and stuff, and when i did a couple of times even the phone is busy. And when another taiwan pal of mine, a 20 SW big shot collector emails...bingo she answers.
Perhaps she thinks my business volume is perhaps too small to warrant her attention. i hate to be thought of as a nusiance and ignored, not the chain emailer kind anyway...i had too much of that since my school days as a geek .... :~~(

No, I think i will go for a matching predator shaft instead.:(

Best Regards

Raist, Raist, Raist . . . . . You should not be treated that way. Tell you what, I will take that ebony / red veneer SW off of your hands for $1k AND I'll pay the shipping. I can be satisfied with one SW shaft, if that's all you have. I mean how many shafts can you play with at one time anyway?

No thanks are necessary. Just doing my international relations duty. :D

$275 may seem high for the shaft but does it include shipping? Look at what Predator charges for their shafts. Or try that new shaft that is being advertised on this forum.

If you can not get the ferrule you want why not have her install ivory?

Hi Scott

Nice Try, but as i told Mr alhambra here, that SW is a keeper. sure u will concur with me, how many full black ebony SW with red veeners and made by Franklin do u ever see lying ard?

Hi thebook,

Laurie charges 275 for a shaft, and another 80 for shipping as i also need to ship the butt for her to match. thats 355 bucks for a shaft. And first she needs to answer her calls or emails.

i think u are referring to that cue adaptor contraption that Bill Stroud designed. i read the specs and the compasion table seems the performance is not as good as a predator shaft. This is a nice nifty table on techno shafts.

Wish you luck.

I hate that you are getting crap instead of help. I have given it more thought and think you will still be better off getting the shaft from SW.

While at Derby City Classic, I sold, traded and bought cues. There has been a change, as if a cue shaft is not 13mm or very close, the shafts are worth much.

I too, traded for a 94 model JF SW with ebony nose. The plus with this cue was (1) shaft as new and the other one with some blue but both at 13mm.

I had a local cuemaker make me a cue (titlist conversion). He had bought a batch of SouthWest "seconds" for shafts. He added, ivory ferrelles and it played wonderful.

My only other help would be to get some of these "seconds" to another cuemaker. I suggest if you could measure and have the shaft made then sent to you.

Best of luck,
Ken

Don't go by the specs on the internet only.. I have Universal Smart (Bill Stroud's design) and Pred shaft. US shaft is worth hitting if you already like Pred shaft. It's also feels more solid and weighty than Predator.

I finally got a Pred shaft fitted for my Layani cue ... the deflection is gone .. but the shaft is too light compared to other one hence the cue just doesn't feel same when hitting.
