Man charged for trading ivory

Hmmmm

You guys amaze me. Why does everything have to be about $$$? I'm in Chicago RIGHT NOW (today only), and would be happy to accept the challenge, without the stigma of a $500 bet (which imo is silly). I may win, I may not...but I know TO ME, ivory joints feel and play differently than many other joints. If I lose then you'll have the pleasure of coming on here and saying "I told you so!". Cased closed.

It is not about money Scott....sorry I missed you in Chicago. I would have wagered one cold beer just to see if you could do it. We did this a few years ago with some custom cues, and nobody could tell which cue was which...so I'm thinking it would not matter in this instance either. Maybe you can, I know I could not....but this is a pool forum, and if we didn't offer a wager somebody would have told us to shut up or put up.... But you were the one who stated quite adamantly that you could tell the difference. So the case is not closed, only delayed....

Hmmmm

Bump for the obvious...but apparently ignored....

WHY are not chickens endangered, beings that billions more of them are slaughtered than elepahnts are? Why are they not running out?

Same question for cattle.

In that answer lies THE solution to the (govt-caused) ivory "problem."

Jeff Livingston

I knew somehow you would resort to blaming the problem on the government. I guess the fact that pregnant elephants take on average 22 months to carry to full term has nothing to do with it. And that 1 elephant that is born, and then many of the young are lost to predators thus the problem of why elephants don't procreate like Chickens...... There are many chicken farms with hundredes of thousands of chickens in pens that are breed for food. The cylce to breed and make more chickens is quick, and a dozen are hatched at a time.. Cattle are bred to make money, the rancher is not going to sell more cows than he can breed...thus a cycle repeats itself without ever running out. Kinda common sense IMHO>

What I find funny...........

and NO I have not read this entire thread, Is how you people who swear against Ivory and the killing of elephants don't give a single thought to the chickens you speak of above.

You run out to Chik-fil-a and grab a sandwich and then come back and complain about killing elephants for Ivory.......now that is funny!!

Maybe we can save elephants by making decorative cue components out of hen's teeth!!!!

I've always found it funny that people are sooo against ivory in a cue but have no problem with the fact that we kill trees to make them.

I've always find it funny that people compare trees to an animal. Ummm, apples and oranges. Of course, you said it with a spin. "Against "ivory" and killing trees" Killing an elephant to supply the ivory, well, that is a no brainer. Not against ivory, just the illegal kind that involved poachers killing a majectic animal. Would anyones opinion be different if we were talking about a dogs hind leg used to make cues?? If for some reason the bone of all German Shepards, Colles and Irish Setters were somehow just as special as ivory,,,any problems with that all ??

The dogs wouldn't be in danger of extinction.

You knew that, huh? Good. I'm making progress.

Tress take decades to reproduce yet there are more trees in the USA than ever before. Lots of property takes time to develop into marketable value.

There's a reason for that. Property rights. THAT is what is missing re elephants going extinct. Oh, cattle can take years before being consumed...yet there are plenty of those. Dismiss it casually, but the effect still exist.

Last I checked Chickens were not on the C.I.T.E.S. threatened species list and elephants were. If you can't see the difference then I have to wonder if you have a grasp on the consequences of species extinction.

Comparing chickens to elephants is a pretty weak effort.

I don´t think its a week effort - its a great effort to compare them in my eyes. :clapping:

The only differnce between these two animals is, that one is small and we fvucking need it for living.
Yeap, you got it - we need chickens to eat and elephants not - thats it.

Why you are thinking all the chickens and cows were held in "intensive mass animal farming"
Or do you think there is no reason why chicks and cows get "enriched and loaded corn" to eat.

Chickens and cows would be on the CITES LISTENING, too, if we would not be able to have them in "mass farm".

Yeap, make them bigger and fater in a short time, that we fvcking people,
that are way to much on this plante - at least in my mind - have something to eat.

Eric"h" ----- if elephants would be smaller, we would "mass farm" them for all they have

And you can prove this how? Using your logic please explain why other animals we don't actively farm are not on the threatened species list.

We don't farm crows, why aren't they on the list?
We don't farm grasshoppers, why aren't they on the list?

Your effort is weaker than the other posters, please use your brain prior to posting next time.

As english is not my mother tongue, maybe I missed something, but it´s obvious that the animals you named have nothing we want or need.

The animals I named (chicken, cow or even beef) are animals we need for living, so we started to "mass farm" them.
Only said that if we wouldn´t do that, there would not be many of them left and that would be a reason for CITES to have them on their list.

Elephants, we don´t need for living, but as many of us are fvcking stupid we kill them because of ivory, because we "need it" ,you know.

Wrong to do, but I only wanted to say that we all are idiots because of things like that - hope I got it right this time.

Maybe we could get some more Ivory from these Africans...

"Some elephant populations have grown so large that some African communities have resorted to culling large numbers to help sustain the ecosystem"

crooked as the tusk

Joe Barringer/joseph puleo jr. is a real stand up guy the tusk he so proudly
displays on his web site he purchased from a widow in Tenn. as money is no object and he so sucessfull unlike all of us underware computer types
he low balled her after he got there to purchase said tusk for half price
Mr Barringer/Puleo has been up to some other unethical/imoral activities in some peoples opinion
Stay posted for more of his sucess stories

There is no ivory in a chicken.

You must have a very limited imagination. Poaching a spieces into extintion is very much as grave as murder or rape. Just because you don't respect the world around you doesn't mean it has less value than the human species.

Why don't you go back to the shallow gene pool you popped out of.

your line of thinking is one of the largest problems with people today.

i can't help but to think how those poor Cuban Cigars are going to be treated!
