Well, I guess Thorsten is not intimidated by the rather strong field that is assembling. It's good to see that he's not afraid of a little competition.

I have already used that excuse:rolleyes:, I am going to make an attempt to get out there...there are great 3c tables too.

Andy- will you be posting an entrant list?

BB,
There is QUITE a difference between the field last year and this. Look at the strength of the other qualifiers as well. Is there any doubt that RG has promoted interest in 14.1 with his tournament? Kudos to Randy Goldwater.

I was getting that impression from thew names appearing in the thread thus far...I am a contracts guy, so I won't believe it until I see it in print. Like the stories in theforum HAHAHAHA! Just kidding!

I trust alinco, even though he has showed a bit of a devilish side in his last few posts!

Man, I envy you guys! MD is like, what, 3-4 hours from IN?

Living in TX sucks because every state is at least that far away! :p

I think I need to move to OH or something! :p

Andy, if it's round robin on Sat., I assume the field will be broken up into groups of 4-6 players, then the winners move on-- kind of like the IPT format? Incidentally, Grady Mathews will be there.

Doc

Hey Doc,

Yes, the plan is 8 groups of 5 with top 2 players from each group advancing to a 16 player single elimination on Sunday. I'm pretty sure we have 39 confirmed and will probably come up with the lucky 40th player by Saturday.

I heard Grady was coming - this is definitely a tough field!

Indianapolis,IN to Annapolis, MD is about a 9-10 hour drive. The whole MD-VA-DC area is definitely a pool player's area. We have lots of tournaments pretty much every weekend within 2 or 3 hours tops. The Tiger Pool Tour has about 12-15 events per year within an hour. The Blaze Tour covers most of NJ and eastern PA and are only about 3-4 hours tops. The Joss Tour is in NY and NJ as well. New York City is just 3-4 hours away with Philly on the way.

I am going to try my hardest to go. Would hate to miss it, but my boss is leaving the company in a couple days and time off in the near future is a little out of the question.

I'll try to go without missing work but the 4+ hour commute each way will make that a bit difficult.

Sigh... if I miss this tournament I will be very mad.... :(

I hope you go so I can root for you.

Hello everyone,

This is my first post although I have been lurking for several years. Just thought I would introduce myself since I will be attending the 14.1 tourney on Saturday purely as a spectator (wife and daughter are away for the weekend so I am finally able to devote a whole day to pool without repercussions).

I have never been to an organized pool event outside of the APA, and I have never seen 14.1 in person, so I am very excited at the opportunity to see some of the best in the world in action.

Hopefully I'll get to meet some of you on Saturday.

Best of luck to those who are competing.

Jeff

Welcome aboard Jeff! Make sure you say "hi" to me since I won't know who you are. I'll be playing so you can figure out who I am.

BB, have I ever led you astray before? Here, print this webpage and you'll have it in writing:

Thorsten Hohmann
Jeanette Lee
Grady Mathews
Mike Davis
Danny Harriman - pretty sure
Mika Immonen - pretty sure

And there'll be at least 10 not-so-famous straight pool players that play jam-up! And then another 24 players of varying skills.

Man did we get a late start, but thorsten and I, along with his girlfriend, just pulled into our hotel room. A quick look at my watch says 3:15, ouch.

It took over 5 hours to get here as there was a horrific accident right outside of the lincoln tunnel as we left the city.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

It makes me feel good to see that at the very least, straight pool is making a comeback in player popularity. From the outset, it was my intention to raise peoples awareness of 14.1, have an annual world championship, and see steady 14.1 action in pool rooms nationwide.

I think we are well on the way to accomplishing these goals, and i want to thanks both fans and players who have contributed towards the fulfillment of this vision!!!

Great field for the event, Randy!

Best of luck to everybody!

Ok, here's where we stand:

40 players in 8 groups of 5 have finished the round robin stage and the top 2 from each group advance to Sunday. The winners of each group are seeded 1-8 based on record and ball differential. The second place finishers in each group make up the 9-16 seeds. These 16 players play single elimination tomorrow starting at 10:30.

1. Thorsten Hohmann - closest match today was 100-26!
16. Peter Burrows - finished second in the group where Ryan McCreesh was a no-show

8. Danny Harriman - lost last match to local player Joe Cataldi but wins his group anyway. Joe gets the biggest "pat on the back" for a nice win but no cash
9. Ed Deska - local Bill & Billie's best player who played in last year's big event in New Jersey

5. Danny Barouty - NYC - finished in Top 16 of last years big event
12. Marty Ciccia - "Trenton" Marty

4. Mika Immonen
13. Shaun Wilkie

3. Steve Lipsky
14. Andy Lincoln - me!

6. Jeanette Lee
11. Mike Davis

7. Matt Tetreault
10. Grady Mathews

2. Ed Hodan - winner of our last November Maryland State event
15. Linda Shea - making balls again - "just like riding a bicycle!"

AZB'er Steve Lipsky posted the first high run of the day when he ran 99 and out in his first match! By the way...I predicted earlier in this thread that Steve could break his 75 high run on "The One's" post of personal bests before lunch!

Mika Immonen recovered from a shaky first match of the day against me. He and his next opponent took fouls to start the match when Mika ran 101 and out! Steve was not amused...

Maryland winds up day one very well represented albeit with lower seeds...

Ed Deska
Mike Davis
Shaun Wilkie
Andy Lincoln
Linda Shea
Peter Burrows

AZB will also be well represented on Sunday with...

Thorsten Hohmann
Steve Lipsky
Danny Harriman
Grady Mathews
Mike Davis
Andy Lincoln

Tomorrow should be fun!
Andy
