I'm not from this area, just up here temporarily. But Big Daddy's in the Baltimore area as well as Top Hat are the two places to play. Jack and Jill's recently closed down and I don't believe has reopened.

If action is what you're looking for, there really isn't too much around here to speak of around here, unless you're willing to try to outrun the nutz. Big Daddy's runs a 9 ball tournament every tuesday night though that is a good time. $20 entry, free practice starts at 7, and beginning at 6 throughout the night it's 1/2 price pool. The tournament starts at 8-8:30. Double elimination, race to 5 on the winners side, race to 3 on the 1 loss side. Yesterday Ga Young Kim showed up to shoot in it...she ended up winning. Big Daddy's is also the place that they are holding the qualifier for the World 14.1 Straight Pool Championships on July 12-13th .

Pretty good equipment. Nine 9' Diamond Pro's, 2 7' Diamonds, and 4(?) Gold Crowns.

There are many rooms in the area you're looking at. Among them...2 or 3 Fast Eddies, 2 Bungalow Billiards (Sterling and Chantilly, VA), Bedrock Billiards and Buffalo Billiards in D.C. proper, and today I was told about First Break Billiards in Sterling. I'd read great things about that room here, and I'll be in there on Wed. 6/25 in the late afternoon. There are many others I've missed, but others will post.

Dude, if you'd be more specific in what your really trying to find out maybe we can answer your questions. There are money games available, what stakes are you looking for? Are you a Player or a hacker looking to shoot some while in town?

sorry im asking if there are really good players here in these rooms or is this more of a social hang out spot thanks

As far as Richmond Va. goes...

Diamond Billiards...top notch place to play..great service, great prices, depends on the night you go if your looking for action..two great players work there.

Side Pocket..Chalk full of good players, a few high betters, but very good solid players... incredible one pocket players there.

Playing Field...upscale billiard room..nice place, Has awsome cue shop "Parrot Cues" (one of the few reasons to go there anymore) but very big pool hall.

Pm me and let me know if you just wana hit em around or looking for a serious game.

Danny there's top notch players in every room in this area the only question is the time of day your looking to play. Side Pockets in Laurel MD, Sat or Sun, Big Daddy's in Glen Burnie 9 ball Tournament on Sat 2pm. Golden Sports Bar Ellicott City 8 ball Tournament Sun 7pm. Champions in Shirlington Va. Sat or Sun lot's of action to be had.

Top Hat on Sunday's usually has a decent field. In the past, Mike Davis, Jerry Slivka, Ryan McCreesh, Manny, Brett Stotlemeyer, and some other good players have played. They have some guys there that will gamble with you too. 1:00PM on Sundays.

if anyone wants to come down to the baltimore, maryland area for some 500-1000 dollar sets pm me and we can set something up, thanks.

i'm not playing, im setting the game for someone else.

Hagerstown Billiards or head to All-Star Billiards in Frederick on Saturdays for their weekly tournament. Brandon Shuff just played on Saturday and Ryan McCreesh has played as well.

Champions in Shirlington = tight pockets

how are the tables here? any tight pocket tabls?

I just discovered that Champions in Shirlington (2620 Shirlington Road) has most, if not all, of its tables at least double-shimmed (so, no larger than 4.5", and on many tables, even tighter).

$5 specials on weekends, too. $5 = play from 11 am to 6 pm. I'll be spending a lot more time there.

I played there recently w/ another AZBr and the table was pretty tight. Just how I'd want a home table. Played 'hard' though, combo of old felt and less than perfect shimming.

I think only the front 4 are tightened

The goal of one of the owners is to shim all of the tables. They have been slowly working their way through the entire room. I'm not sure how many they have already done and how many yet to go.

Eh- they ought to get all gold crowns first!
