Maryland State Bar Table 10-ball Championships (Aug 12-13)

The vast majority of that list will blow me out...but here's hoping I draw a HOF'er! I'm like a kid in a raffle--a raffle to get my a$$ stomped by a legend! ;)
I know how you feel, but this is why we play. Being able to play some of these people for $60 is worth it, IMO. Plus it's a great time all around.

And when else can you hang out in a pool room with 400 of yoir closest pool friends all weekend and play 2 or5 matches?!

First tournament in 11 years. Keith McCready aka Grady Seasons is BACK!!.

He's going to compete in the Maryland State 10-Ball Tournament only about a week away.

Going to be a great event with a stellar field, including 5 time US Open Champion Earl (The Pearl) Strickland. :clapping:

And Steve Mizerak is coming?

Different Jones. Br"i"an is from the Tulsa area and doesn't play anymore. Health-related issues made him stop. Too bad as he was one helluva player.

He was an excellent player, especially one-pocket. I saw him at Carolinas Open, and he was strong. Not much on the personality front, but I guess he let his stick do the talking.

Tomorrow is the day for the Maryland State Bar Table 10-Ball Championship. Lots of name-brand players from the local scene will be in attendance. Looks like a fun time for all!

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, Laurel Raceway is right down the street, where one can partake in a little horse wagering on the off hours.

There is also a wonderful Amish market open till noon. Best jalapeno cheese bread in the world, and there are lots of other Amish delicacies. Try the potato jo-jos, whole roasted chicken, broccoli salad, fresh smoothies, and much, much more. This place is always crowded because people know a good thing when they taste it. Love this place! :smiling-heart:

Plenty of parking at Bank Shot Bar and Grill in Laurel, MD, which is great.

I've been told that the pool room can get hot inside when the place is packed, so wear something light and comfy.

128-player field is full, and there's a 23-player waiting list to get in last time I checked.

Oh, I heard it through the grapevine that a special order of 50 black Nightmare shirts was made especially for this event and will be available on a first-come/first-serve basis for a reduced price. They're already selling out like hotcakes. ;)

Big Truck (Ray Hansen) of Pool Action TV will be in the house live-streaming some matches, so if you're looking for something to sweat on the computer or TV, check it out: http://www.poolactiontv.com/

Can Keith "Earthquake" McCready shake the joint?

Will the Ryan "Genie Man" McCreesh snap it off?

Will the Pearl shine brightly?

Can Brandon Shuff snatch the big W for the win?

Will Tina Malm show the boys some girl power on a field of green?

Can Shawn Wilkie or Matt Krah add this title to their pool portfolio?

Will Brett Stottlemeyer or Eddie Abraham show how strong Pennsylvania is on a barbox?

Will veteran Billy Stephen show the young'ns how to run packages?

Can Bucky Souvanthong rise to the top like he does on the Joss Tour?

Is Mike Davis the one to watch?

Will Rick Molineiro or Tony Long showcase Maryland's pool strength?

Has fatherhood slowed down Mark "Donut Man" Ford, or will he rise to the top?

Will the two brand-new unknown Filipino players be the dark horses to sweat for the almighty win?

Will Matt Clatterbuck and Eric Moore shoot down the players full of holes like Swiss cheese?

Do we need Ghostbusters to come if Wimpy and Steve Mizerak get off the waiting list?

Stay tuned tomorrow. I'm sure there's going to be plenty of surprises. :D

No names sorry, but I hear there's about 10 of the players already on he list say they're dropping out - supposedlybecause they don't care for the rules. Heard thru the grapevine, so we know how that goes so guess we'll see shortly.

There's plenty of stand-bys on the waiting list to take their place, fortunately.

One thing about pool tournaments, I used to run them in Maryland back in the '80s, and I learned quickly that no matter how much effort you put into the planning of a huge event like this, you will never, ever please everybody. There will always be somebody whining and groaning about something they don't like. Hey, that's pool for you. It is impossible to please everyone.

For 60 bucks, race to 7 on a barbox, it's literally a crapshoot, IMO. Anybody can win! If I wasn't so out of stroke, I would have paid my entry fee and gotten in. Barbox was my specialty back in the day, with the big cueball. Nobody could beat me at Hank Dietle's in Rockville when I was hitting 'em.

Now at the age of 63, I'm a mere railbird, but a gal can dream, can't she? :p

For those curious about the rules, here's a snapshot:

The tournament will be played on 16 Diamond bar tables using a STANDARD WOODEN RACK. Race's to 7 on both sides. Call shot only. 10- ball does not count on the break and will be alternating breaks.

Personally, I like these rules. I do like the call shot. No slop here.
