eze123, Here the first respond from CIBA:

Hi Bob,
The Mass?-cues shaft size is 13,5 - 14mm.
Cue tips are a personal choice: We use Elk Master, Buffalo, Triangle, Moori and Layani.
Soft tips are used for shots where ball1 must not jump and react immediately.
Hard tips are used for shots where ball1 may jump a little....

Greetings from Europe,
Manfred Hekerle
Conf?deration International de Billard Artistique

Very interesting. Thank you for making the inquiry, and for posting the reply.

FYI the Europeans refer to the cue ball as "ball 1". He is not talking about the first object ball, which would be "ball 2".

Hi Bob,

Asking for Masse tips I can say: training!
practice for a straight shot and make a soft grip with your right hand(if you're righthanded of course), not more than 2-3 fingers.
The most beginners stroke is too hard.

We do not have special brands for Masse cues.
Until 1992 we played with ivory balls. The masse cues were very heavy and the necessary stroke was more powerful.
Now with Aramithballs there is not such hard play necessary, it became more technical and the cues less weight.
The weight is between 22 and 24 oz, the lenght is between 45 and 49 inch, depends on the lenght of the player.

There is a DVD from Ex-World Champion Jean Reverchon, where he plays all 100 figures with explanation in english.
Normal price 29,90 euro

Greetings
Manfred Hekerle

I don't know if Gene (Crown Cues) has been able to keep up with the forum, lately, so I'll post some info on here for him.

Standard specs (the ones I know) for masse' cues made by Crown Cues:

  • Length is usually 44 inches long, but he will make them longer or shorter.
  • Weight is usually 22-25 ounces, but he has been known to make them heavier.
  • The brass ferrule is becoming very popular on his masse' cues.

He has been working very hard to get some more masse' cues finished and online, again. Usually, he gets them almost finished and someone comes along and buys them, before he can get them online. That makes him happy, but I think he said he's going to start posting some online, even after they sold, so folks can compare notes on the specs.

This was the info I sent CIBA:

There are maybe three or four that speciality in Masse Cue: Dieckman Cue, Crown Cues, Schuler Cues, and Sleath [sp?] in the United States.

And he was train by the Magic Wandzzzz HOF Dieckman , Himself. I forgot he also made a Masse Cue for Mike Massey.

lyptus is stiffer like a purpleheart shaft, but lighter. it's also lighter than maple. a standard pool cue shaft of lyptus has been running anywhere from a .50 oz to .875 oz. lighter than maple. cue is 44" long, just 5 minutes ago glued on a IV4 ferrule, probably go with a buffalo tip, 13.50'ishMM

Isn't Buffalo tip a Medium Hard density?
Is shaft Conical or Taper, if taper what the taper?
Bet you it already sold!

Brent,

Is the Lyptus shaft made of the hybrid Lyptus?
I think in Brazil they have crossed two Eucalyptus species and they are calling it Lyptus.

yes it is
from what i have read,
it's used predominently for hardwood flooring
i'm all out of lyptus boards , been trying to get more with no luck
all i can find is 13/16" thick

*side note about the lyptus
it does not thread well at all
threads tear out using a standard tap
i've been plugging with either phenolic or purpleheart

Brent, Since this your 3rd Masse Cue have you figure on the asking price?

I know Dieckman are $$$$$$ [Got to talk to the Man].

I Believe Crown Cues staring at $260.00 & up.

Schuler Masse Cue $450.00 [Schuler Cue will be increasing prices effective July, 1 2008.]
http://029ad08.netsolstores.com/

Stealth Masse Cue $100.00 [ designed by master cuebuilder Ned Morris ].

There problem others cuemakers in The United States and Others Countries who can make a
Masse Cue. Yes Stubby shafts 12" or longer are also made for cues.

Mike Massey is the guy that told me about Dennis Deickman. At the time I was using a cue I had found in a ditch. He said if you ever meat him tell him he has to make you a masse cue.

Well that went over like a brick I said sir your gonna make me my masse cue...Dennis said no. I said yes, he said no. I said look when I am the best in the world next year, you'll make me a cue. He said fine as soon as you are the best next year  I'll make you a cue and so....He did.

Dennis just finished his masse cues, he told me he will not make another masse cue...
