Master vs. Triangle Chalk

I got some Triangle chalk with the purchase of my pool table. I saw that it is made by the same company that makes Master Chalk. Does anyone know if this chalk is good or bad? I need to use it in a tournament next week, so I need to know if it is bad so I can order some Master.

Thanks...

Triangle chalks are snooker chalk. Master chalks are billiard chalk. I used both. There are two totally different kind of chalk. Triangle chalk is much softer than Master chalk. If you use Triangle, you need to chalk your tip more often. To most poolplayers I wouldn't recommend to use Triangle chalk to play. You will have lesser grip when using Triangle. To me, I like the Triangle chalk. I use Triangle on my playing cue (it's a carom cue with a 12mm tip, I don't like too much grip for normal shots, with my playing cue I already can make tons of english) and Master on my breakcue.

I think it's better if you just order some Master chalk.

Hmm........I've always found Master to be softer than Triangle. Tweeten's used to advertise the Triangle as a firmer chalk than the Master brand. I've always preferred Master in the winter, spring and fall, and during "humidity" season, I switch to Silver Cup or Triangle.

I have used both. Triangle chalk seems to be a liitle softer. If you are good at chalking after each shot I don't think it really matters. If you go to Platium Billiards website they have a comparison between the two chalks.

I've also a Silver Cup chalk at home, haven't used it yet. But the hardness seems like between Triangle and Master. On a scale, if Master is 10, and Triangle is 1, I would say, the Silver Cup is 4 on hardness.

But it's strange that you find the Triangle harder than the Master. I used the green/light blue Triangle. Have you tried to touch the chalk with your finger? I will get more chalk on my finger if I touch the Triangle. I can also chalk the tip with a Master more often than with the Triangle.

Are you sure? I haven't seen Platinum Billiards compare it with the Triangle chalk.

Dont ever see anyone talk about Blue Diamond chalk... they are expensiver but the find them a lot better then masters, dont know how to say it but just the feel when i chalk is so much better then with Masters

I've always used Master chalk. Just yesterday I visited a poolroom I've never been to and they used Triangle. My impression of it was favorable. I found it to be grittier and it didn't seem to come off the cube and dust as easily as the Master did. I suppose if I had to, I'd say it felt harder.

Not a bad alternative IMO.

Blue diamond is very nice. A friend gave me a cube, and I really enjoyed it.

I absolutely hate Triangle chalk. Given a choice, I would take Blue diamond first, Masters in a close second, and Triangle in a distant third.

When I chalk up with Triangle it feels hard. But if I accidentally touch the Triangle chalk it gets all over my hands, unlike Masters. Not sure why that is.

The place I play at has Brunswick and Triangle. I won't touch the Triangle, I move it to a different table so I don't accidentally pick it up. I have two cubes of Masters chalk in my bag, but I always misplace my chalk. I don't want to use them and lose them!!! The average span for my chalk is maybe three days before I lose it.:)

I currently have all 3 brands at my house. Blue Diamond, Master and Triangle. I prefer the Blue Diamond over them all.

I got the same experience. That's why I never use Triangle to chalk my breakcue, it's almost impossible to chalk with. Most of the chalk will end on the floor, not on the tip :D

I've also some Brunswick chalk (from kersje  ), but that's really crap. The chalk is almost harder than rock

I used to hate Triangle chalk, but after using it a lots of time, I'm starting to like it.

I have always preferred Triangle (Yellow Label) chalk. I hardly ever see it.

In Holland, it's really cheap. For like $20 you get 144 pieces of Triangle chalks.

Hmm... seems about 50/50

I need some blue chalk next week, and I already have 6 cubes of triangle, just wondering if I should order some Masters...

I posted the MSDS sheets from Tweeten in this thread:
http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=68841&highlight=msds

According to these sheets, Master and Triangle have the same ingredients. Now that's not to say there is a different process in making either. That could be why they seem different.

I have called Tweeten, and asked these questions myself. There is no difference between Masters or Triangle, and the chalks color makes no difference either, except for the dye used.

The rumors of differences actually are based in fact though. Years back these chalks were made by different companies and they did have a different consistency however when the Tweeten Fiber company bought the Triangle Name the differences ceased to exist.

Hope this helps have a good day!!!!!!!!!

i agree that the chalk's color doesn't make a difference, despite many who say it does. but i have definitely noticed that triangle and master's chalk are NOT the same.
