Masters 3C event Cancelled in Colombia

For a little more context, here is the FB announcement...
UMB 3-Cushion World Masters ·
We regret to announce the cancellation of the UMB World Masters in Bogotá (March 31 – April 5).
This difficult decision follows a significant deterioration in the financial situation of the event’s sponsors, in a challenging context for the billiards industry.
We sincerely apologize to the UMB, its President, and all players and partners for the inconvenience caused.
We also wish to thank Luis Gabriels (Megabillar) for his valuable support in preparing this event. He bears no responsibility for this cancellation.
Thank you for your understanding.

When in doubt, hold the prize fund in escrow. That seems to be a lesson the cue sports world keeps learning. I wonder how many players were stuck part way to Bogota.

If you want to read anything into it: the three major disasters in the past 15 years have been a cancelled World Cup in Mexico (when players had already booked), a dumpster fire of a World Championship in Bolivia, and this Bogota cancellation. I'm not counting the cancelled World Cup in Turkey, that was due to devastating earthquakes in the region so not an organizers fault. We've had some World Cups in other locations that nobody was proud of, but at least they were played. Latin-America appears to be the high risk territory.

Many years ago in Las Vegas, a man opened a Billiard Parlor that had eight 5-10 billiard tables and nothing else. At some point he contacted the UMB and said he wanted to host a World Cup. Not too long before the event was to be held, he called the UMB and said he didn’t have enough money and the event was cancelled. Many players had already booked their flights and made hotel reservations. On one of my trips to Vegas I went to this room. The owner had taken out five of the billiard tables and replaced them with pool tables. I think both Eddie Robin and the Melnichuk brothers used to go there. Manny Pacquiao played there.

The owner was from Italy, He had Italian Carom tables with some really interesting lighting!

From what I understand they served pretty good Authentic Italian food!
