Why does England need four players at the Masters and the other countries get one? Does England need the deck stacked that much to win? I also notice that England has put in the best of their best, while not all the others have their best there. Johnnyt

It might be because the organization hosting the event hails from England. :D

It is because they are hosts!
Daryl Peach had to win qualifier to play.

IF America was to host this event I'm sure she would be afforded the same privileges

Is it not done on world rankings? As posted elsewhere, one English county - Yorkshire - has 3 of the top ten players in world, whereas the whole of the US only has 2 in the top 32.

Ga young Kim and Efern Reyes are not close to the top in world rankings. Johnnyt

With their virtual disappearance from the overseas pool scene, top American players have become less and less known to pool fans outside of the United States. Many Europeans only see the American players once a year, and given that the US has lost five of the last six Mosconi Cups, who could blame European pool fans if they've come to view American pool unfavorably. Of course, they know Van Boening, a superstar who participates all over the world, and Shane's in this event. Eleven of the sixteen participants at the World Pool Masters are ranked in the WPA Top 20. The real injustice here is that WPA ranked #1 and World 9-ball Champion Thorsten Hohmann isn't there.

American pros can reestablish their pedigree in the eyes of Europe a month from now at the Mosconi Cup. I have a feeling that they will do just that, but talk is cheap.

What a shame it is that the Billiards Congress of America (BCA), the organization that has been given the authority to represent North America to the WPA, does not help in this regard to promote professional pool. I do not understand it. If they want to be an industry organization, looking out for the welfare of their industry members, then they should relinquish the authority to represent North America to the WPA.

What do they do that utilizes the word "Congress" in their very name? It's ridiculous. Congress for industry members? What Congress?

If American pool is looked upon with such a disregard, what good is the BCA? In fact, what good is the WPA to America if it benefits only one American pro player?

It is shameful the way the BCA has turned its back on professional pool.

Well said. At a time when American pros, who high standards you and I understand, are not playing in the overseas events, they need to be marketed more skillfully. It sure would be nice if the BCA took on this responsibility, although you and I both know they'd say it is not their role.

In a time of chaos in profesional pool on American soil, it would be a golden opportunity for a new upstart organization to take the reins. I say this because Str8 Shots is one organization that is working with the BEF, young players as well as seasoned players, to make a difference. They already donate supplies to our servicememembers overseas at no cost. As they develop, if their brand gets more well known, they would be in a good position to make a difference and do something positive for professional pool.

Of course, that's if they're willing to tackle it. To date, none of the existing pool organizations seem like they don't want to touch professional pool with a 10-foot pole. :o

A brand-new entity with a fresh look at pool is needed. If not Str8-Shots, the door is open for a willing entity to move forward. If handled correctly, it could be financially beneficial to both sides: the organization and professional players. It would take an organization who would always put the players' interests first, and at the same time, they need to attracte industry member sponsors to contribute to the cause. Wouldn't it be idea if both sides -- players and industry members -- benefit together as pool grows in popularity? The BCA has failed miserably at this.
