I'm sorry, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I want to buy some tan Masters chalk but a friend of mine says it's not going to be as good as blue?? what would the color have to do with it? the pigment? is he right?

Does anyone use tan Masters chalk? and where is the best place to buy chalk with out getting old or counterfeit chalk online?

Thanks.

Yo, Jude!! Want to step in here? lol

Try a search on chalk. There have been numerous threads on the subject. Most people prefer the blue. Part of the reason is cosmetic (less mess on the table) and part is because people feel like it works better.

I was a tan chalk person until recently. Now I think blue is best - holds onto the tip better and makes less of a mess on the table. Both work better than other brands in my opinion.

I have tried both & like was already said..the blue seems to go on better & stay on longer. I always use the blue.

I think tan works just as good. I've been using it for about a year and have no problems with it. I especially like that there is no longer a blue mess on my shafts and ferrules. The tan doesn't show up. I usually tap the shaft on my hand after I chalk up and that seems to get rid of the excess on the table. It's only noticible if I miscue into the cloth. :p

The tan chalk is horrible, it does hold very well and can actually damage your tip.

Just kidding of course, I have never used it so I cant really say, I just try to scare people away from it because it makes the table so messy :D

I don't think pigment in the chalk will affect the way the chalk works. The only great benefit of using a tan chalk is that they are not as messy on your cue shaft, but on the downside it messes up the cloth (green cloth against tan color is contrasting right?)

Chalk

Tan chalk works great the dye in it (natural) seems to create less gretty application to the tip. Plus the chalk is the same color of most hands so that it isn't noticible.

In my opinion it depends on the table that i am playing on....I am a big grump when it comes to messy tables....I dont enjoy playing in them....There is a kid that comes into the club i shoot at and he brings with him the green chalk....All it does is mess the table up....I tell the kid and he thinks it does some magic, and claims only bad players, that make bad shots, mark up the table....He is an ignorant fool I tell yah.....I do like the green chalk, but only on super green felt..I have never used the tan chalk....One guy came into my club and was shooting with black chalk..I thought at first he was doing it to be wise with me...It marked the table horribley, and would not remove with brush

I've never noticed a difference between different colored Masters chalk. I have heard other players say that the different colors (other than blue) aren't as good, but I've never had a problem with them.

I keep a gross of Tan, Blue and Green. My home table is tan, us that there. I keep the Blue and Green for different tables at different pool rooms/clubs. I don't see any difference and don't care what color the chalk is, as long as it matches the cloth and it's MASTER chalk.

Later,
Bob

Well, thanks for the help, seems like a lot of people don't have a problem with tan so I'll go ahead and get some, chalk is cheap enough so I think I'll buy a box of blue as well, I didn't think color made a difference, maybe blue is just manufactured more often and fresh:D

So whats the best place online to get chalk? I have heard of bad or old chalk, chalk ruined by high humidity and even fake masters chalk

What place do you guys buy it from?

For buying chalk online, I tend to go to Neilsen's Billiards on eBay. A large selection of different colours and brands.

An excellent service that I have used on several occasions and one that I have no trouble recommending.

Who gives a shit whether something stays on the tip better or is less messy on the cloth. The only thing that matters is you walk around like a real pool player should with a proper badge of honor...and THAT is to have BLUE on your fingers, your shirt and pants and the heel pad of your bridge hand.
Tan or other colors are just for sissies.

Maybe it is all just in my head, but everytime that I try to use tan chalk I miscue more. One of the places that I go to play at changed all the felt fomr green over to the tan camel color. Since he changed to that color, he will not let anyone use the blue chalk and I have a rough time getting anything going. I hate tan chalk and cloth.....

I was showed a drill that show which chalk works the best.Put the rack at the corner of the table with a side a rack on each rail.Place the cue ball at the point of the rack at the rail.Press the cue ball with the tip and turn the cue to the opposite direction till it slips off the cueball.I tested all colors and the masters dark blue work the best.

My Personal Preference is Master Light GREEN, seems to work for me, and most of the Tables I play are Light Blue, or Green Felt.... ;)

I use the tan chalk personally to avoid (seeing) the mess on the hands and on the cue. I'm not positive, but I would say that the blue applies better. I don't think the chalk is a weak point in my game :).

Do you honestly think that the color of the dye used affects the playability of said chalk? Any color works the same...

Well I bought a Gross of Light Green Master Chalk, during our Hot Summer Days when it was 115 Degrees. I purposely left the Box out on the Patio in a Shade Place for a Couple of Days. It was in the 90's over night with almost ZERO HUMIDITY. My CHALK is always Dry. ;)

Oh, and I use whatever color of Master chalk the pool hall that I go to at the time has...

Chalk is free. :D
