Doesn't she have to qualify? Where will she play in January assuming she has to qualify? Id like to see her. THanks.
I don't think she's been offered any special compensations, despite being currently ranked no.3 after Karen Corr and Allison Fisher on the WPA rankings.

So I guess she's just playing in the qualifiers. I don't know exactly which ones. I'll post if I find out so people can go watch her games or just follow her progress.

My guess is the girls will find her very tough to beat. They'll also see she's very calm, polite and professional in her conduct. In a recent interview she said the game was a great builder of character. She has a very philosophical, balanced mindset. And a determined, diligent work ethic.

Im sure- Someone else just told me she will be playing on the NEWT (my area) so things look good for me-though the info is hearsay.

Yes, I agree with you. Colin, I believe she is also very tough mentally and confident despite her mild and polite manner.

I believe she will be coming to the US on 11 Jan, and she is trying to qualify for the Carolina event. She may play in a few qualifiers while she is here.

With all due respect to other players on the tour, I believe Ms.Pan will win these qualifiers. She is now ranked No.4 on the WPA ranking along with Ga Young Kim if I am not mistaken.

Colin, her break is so impressive. I do not know the speed but may be next time when I see her I can try to clock it and let you know.

Nostroke, I think you will really enjoy watching her play. There is a very nice rhythm to her game. What impresses me the most is that she conducts herself very professionally and she is really matured for her age. In a way, there is an elegance to her game because of her maturity.

Don't let her humble and calm demeanor fool you, she is here to win the WPBA. I am certain her goal is not only to gain experience but to become a champion on the WPBA tour.

Her brother is also a very good player. Have you played with him, Colin?

Merry Christmas to you all.:p

As far as I know, Pan is an only child.

Perhaps you met Mei Yi Fei who plays with her a lot and comes from the same hometown in Shandong provice. Or someone else?

Colin,

Have you met the guy in the background wearing a dark green jacket with some light green straps on his arm?

Richard
Yeah, that's Mei Yi Fei. I'm not surprised if she introduced him as her brother, Chinese often call friends they grew up with brother or sister. He's a fine shooter but needs more tourney experience.

I put Mei Yi Fei in a trio with Ding Jun Hui and Liu Song in the Amway National Snooker League almost 2 years ago. During a week of playing, where he must have had over 20 games, his best break was a 22 I think.

A few days after I played snooker with him. The first 2 games he made a 56 and 54 on his first visits, and looked like he'd clean the table both times. That shows what can happen to a good player's game when they don't get enough tournament experience.

He's a nice kid and we'll probably see more of him on the international scene one day.

Colin,

Do you know Hsin Mei Liu? Why doesn't she come over to play in the WPBA? She has a good break too and was world champion a few years ago.

I've met her when she played some tournies on the mainland. She's won at least 2 world titles I believe.

The reason she hasn't travelled is probably because she can hardly speak a word of english. She seems to do alright in Taiwan as a local hero. She was featured in TV commercials for a fruit company throughout Asia during the EPSN broadcasts of the WPC.

She hasn't got what you would call model looks, and that probably makes it harder to find sponsors such an Jennifer Chen has achieved.

She plays with good power but her stroke looks a bit messy to me and I've seen her struggle for accuracy at times, though she's a seasoned competitor and fights her way through matches until she finds her zone.

That would explain why she told me that was her brother. Thank you for the clarification.

Did you see all the pictures they have of her (Ms. Pan) in www.my147.com? Besides pictures of her playing in tournaments, they also have everyday pictures of her, her car, her apartment, her dog, her families and what not!

Will you go to Taiwan in March to watch the women's WPC?

I've seen some but not all of those pics. Great gallery with about 100 pics of Pan Xiao Ting here: http://panxiaoting.my147.com/ClubphotoentryList
