Maybe Pool Could Become a Team Sport?

Someone might want to think about starting a team league with four to eight on a team. It seems to me that a lot of players and many mainstreamers follow the Mosconi cup with a lot of passion. If you noticed there was/is a lot of buzz about some of the teams after every Vegas BCA, APA, and Valley tournaments. People seem to like the team concept like baseball, hoops, football, hockey, and other team sports. The recent teams like “the Kiss of Death” seem to get peoples attention.

Teams from different states might generate a nice fan base for sponsorship, with six different personalities on each team. I think right now with the ratio of men to women in pool, and women starting to play in more open events that six men and two women per team might draw. You might have the good guy (think Johnny A. or Toney R., the bad guy (think Earl) and other types on a team for fans to identify with. The same goes for the women on the teams…nice, sweet, cute, sexy, bad, and so on. Just a thought, but Johnnyt doesn’t have enough money to back it up. Johnnyt

Not a bad idea, as this is currently the format most players are familiar with during league play.

That said, the pros can't even get individual superstars on the same page, so why would a team based format be any better.

Seems To Me Tennis and Pool Are Similar

Team tennis isn't a winning concept.

Doubles doesn't have the market visibility of singles.

I like your way of thinking on this. The team aspect of the mosconi cup seems to bring out the best in players (and there's a massive amount of cheering from the fans, something that usually gets frowned upon in pool. But at the same time it's nice to see people caring so much).

I saw my first scotch doubles tournament a while ago on espn, of course it featured jeanette and johnny. I'd enjoy seeing that a little bit more. Someone else mentioned an idea in the pool-poker thing that v. facquet is trying to do. It might be fun to see poker pros who can shoot a little team up with actual pool players.

It's a good idea, Johnnyt. I've been thinking that same thing, myself, for years now. But it would take a lot of money and co-operative organization to make it work, and I don't think the industry has the resources to do that.

I have said the same thing in the past. Fans will get more involved in a sport if they have a reason to pull for one team over another one. It could be quite interesting, and possibly build some regional rivalries.

Team owners could establish a league, loosly based on the NFL structure, and each team could get corporate sponsorship much like NASCAR does.

Everything else it seems has been tried, and failed. Why not try something completely different?

We need it in the olympics to start off. Then we can do a world kind of thing.

Team italy vs USA, china vs australia etc.

Only a matter of time, get ready or i'll say I told you so.
