I recently bought a NEW McDermott Lucky LK21 Cue for $38.00, including Priority Mail shipping ... It's definitely NOT a Custom, but the quality is pretty darn good for the price, and it plays pretty darn good also ... I needed a 3/8 x 10 Butt for my Custom 31" Coker Snooker Shaft and it fits so nice you would think they were made at the same time ... Anyone looking for a Beginner Cue or a Cue for playing League in those "really crappy" Bars, this is the one.

I don't have one but I agree & you can put a G-core on it as an upgrade & you're really good to go. If you upgrade later it can be a decent break cue.

I have a McDermott Nitro cue for $39.95 (still has the sticker on it) and I think any player could work magic with this cue.

The shaft is as good as anything else I've got. The decal-ed butt might fall apart one day, but not today.

Freddie <~~~ and no, it's not for sale

My first cue was A McDermott L23, now I'm playing with Joss, and McD goes to my father. After 4 years the cue is still straight and I had no problem with him.
Definitely recommend Lucky series for the beginners.

I've several expensive Predators etc but can't get away from my McD Genuine, which cost me $15 on ebay, has a massive roll, gaping cracks in the ferrule and more war wounds than a crack suicide squad. Genuines are now Stars, I think.

Great hit with a pressed and soaked triangle. The shaft is lively, and, as it has been turned down to 12mm, deflects about the same as my Z shaft, ie pretty much zero. Love the thing.

Gotta agree with this one. I sold mine to a buddy at the bar and it's still shooting great! Definitely would recommend to anyone.

i agree

for someone on a tight budget or someone that doesn't want to bring a exspensive cue to a bar the lucky mcdermont is a very good cue and it does play good... i have one for some place i go to but my normal cue is a joss west or a tim scruggs with a joss east sneaky for a breck cue

Well, I have already run into a problem ... How the Hell do I get the Butt Cap off
so I can change the weight bolt ? ... It just spins around and I can't pull it off with
my fingers.

it's just a "plug" style. just simply pull it off like a cork

I bought one for my daughter to learn with and it plays really well. The wrap could use a pressing, but that's about it. I pick that thing up & play just fine with it.

I have a honey Lucky and its a really great cue, I love the way the joint fits together and how the shaft doesn't have a high amount of coating on it (in fact I think its almost plain wood, but its polished a bit) My fingers would stick to it if it had the same high gloss finish as the butt. The only downside is that I had a jump break tip put on it originally which came off, along with a regular unidentified tip that came with a repair kit. I played pretty good with a phenolic combo break stick so I figured I'd use an icebreaker tip lol, bad choice. Now I got another tip from a repair kit on it with epoxy, ***** ain't coming off now!

I do plan to upgrade to an i3 shaft for it, I love how it looks very plain, no wrap or anything (which makes my hands sweaty).

For 36 bucks it really was a bargain. I learned to play pool with sticks that had no tips, and I have been using a screw on tip stick that has the stripped screw on tip held on by a few band aids. I can play good with it, but due to my experience that could not matter much lol.

Great Cue for the $$

I am a league operator for a BCA League and every year at the Nationals in Vegas I end up buying cues for my banquet gifts. These cues get the most praise of the ones I buy! Can't beat $35-$50 bucks for a surprisingly good hit!

Haven't played with a Mcdermott in many years but in the 80's they made a great hitting cue at less than half the price of a meucci. I used to have all my meucci's ferrels changed to Mcdermotts ferrels, because we broke with the same cue we played with and I have never cracked one of their ferrels, can't say that for the meucci ferrels.

I'm sure they hit just like a Players, Lucasi, et al, since they are most likely made in the same factory in China. Some stuff, diff name. Nothing really new except that MCD is now outsourcing as well....not saying it's good or bad, just saying ....

Yes ... The Bumper, NOT the Butt Cap

If he is talking about the bumper they make a tool to remove i think . You don't pull the butt cap off .

My mistake ... I want to remove the Bumper and that sucker
is not co-operating.

I can tell you that the McDermott models which are made in China are NOT made in the same factory as Lucasi and Players.

As Freddie said earlier the quality now is such that it's actually hard to buy a bad cue. Even the $40 cues from China, and especially the ones from the top two factories, are pretty good.

They have come a long long long way since the mid to late 90s.

They definitely do not hit like a Players or a Lucasi.

Quite sure there are several factories in Asia, and some aren't in China.
