McDermott "Lucky" Cues ... What a Bargain !

I'm sure they hit just like a Players, Lucasi, et al, since they are most likely made in the same factory in China. Some stuff, diff name. Nothing really new except that MCD is now outsourcing as well....not saying it's good or bad, just saying ....

Really?

Wow.

You're so sure, yet you are so wrong.....

Are you a gambling man?:wink:

:D

Really, we are going to gamble whether or not one Chinese cue hits better than another $40 Chinese cue.... yeah, you caught me man... So, yourr opinion is correct, mine is incorrect, on a very subjective subject of chinese hitting cues ..... OK, Doc, whatever you say.... yoswers....

The only thing I'm wrong about is they are NOT built in the same factory as Lucasi and Players as pointed out by JB, and I only siad I was guessing they were.....

So, yeah, I gamble.... I'll play with both cues, and if they play differently you win, if they play the same I win. How much shall we post :)

Thats the one thing I can't stand about McDermott is there silly so called shock absorbing bumper. They can be tough to get out. I ususally just wrap some thin rubber around it and with channel locks you can get it out just be careful not to mess up the butt cap. Their bumbers turn and sometimes get loose making a little noise when you set the cue down. McDermott needs to go back to the drawing board on their bumpers. Not many custom cue builders use "pop-in" bumpers. MCCR

bruno

I recently bought a NEW McDermott Lucky LK21 Cue for $38.00, including Priority Mail shipping ... It's definitely NOT a Custom, but the quality is pretty darn good for the price, and it plays pretty darn good also ... I needed a 3/8 x 10 Butt for my Custom 31" Coker Snooker Shaft and it fits so nice you would think they were made at the same time ... Anyone looking for a Beginner Cue or a Cue for playing League in those "really crappy" Bars, this is the one.

I thought bruno passed away.
McDermott lucky after being used 4 times.

maybe I got the lucky one. Note the lack of glue that holds the wrap in place..

SO,HOW DOES IT PLAY?:grin::grin-square::wink:
I bought and sold 8 of these cues. All were straight and and played good!
Low deflection they are not-13mm shaft and hard tips.

My mistake ... I want to remove the Bumper and that sucker
is not co-operating.

If it is the same bumper they use on the McDermott line, try this:

1. Remove the shaft
2. Sit down
3. Put the butt upright between your knees, with the joint pin on the floor (carpeted would be nice)
4. Wrap both hands around the butt sleeve, with your fingers on the far side of the sleeve and your thumbs on the near side of the sleeve with their tips in the bumper groove
5. Push up and sideways with your thumbs

The bumper should pop out. No special tool needed.

I'm using a similar cue, like in your photos, for 4 years without problem. The only "problem" is the bumper, it becomes a bit loose.

If that does not work, do the same thing with a pair of pliers and a wet hand tower or something to protect the bumper.

LOL! Lighten up there Sparky.:grin:

Obviously you don't like being wrong.

That's nice that you gamble. I don't. But you already claimed certainty on one thing...so if I did gamble....:grin::wink:

I never in fact expressed an opinion either way about how they play dude! LOL! But I did know they were not made in the same factory.

Ok Sparkles, lighten up a little.

""most likely made in the same factory in China"" This does NOT sound like someone that is sure, but a guess, and not all that far off a guess either.... same country... not same factory... i'm sure the quality control is much better at the "old lucky" plant looking at the above pictures :)

good info

I don't reply to post very often but this one is good. after i read it earlyer today i was at a local shop that carrys these,. very cheap so i bought one to try. played about 10 racks, very impressed.with a tip change it will be great. I normally use my coker sp. i will be listing it on abay this week. luckey is a wonderfull cue for the money. not everyone will like them, but i sure do

I bought a couple lucky 1-piece cues from Scheels on sale for $25 (normally $35) for my home table. They hit so well, I don't bother digging out my nicer cues at home.

No worries, I'm pretty sure (I said pretty sure, and no, I don't want to gamble on this response) that just might have been a wednesday cue, because I heard their QC guy comes in late on Wednesdays ;)

Glad I sold all my Cokers when the prices were UP ... They have taken a "hit" over the past few years, just like those Dale Perry 1-of-1's ... I'll keep (and play with) my Alex Brick Customs, Thank You Very Much.

Man, you are SO right ...

I tried your method and it worked slick ... Bumper popped right
out with not too much effort ... Thanks !!!
