I have a G shaft turned down to 11.4 mm, I like the center ball hit but it squirts more than my Z2 - I don't know why??

I have an older McDermott from 1995, an MG01 with 3/8x10, and the new G-core shaft I have will not thread on easily. It is impossible to thread them on right now with central Texas humidity being the way it is. I can only put it on about halfway before it is so tight that I am afraid to turn it any more.

Lubricate the threads of your cue with parafin/candle wax (you don't melt it or anything, just sort of scrape the threads against the edge of the candle/parafin), and then thread the shaft onto it. You may need to do this several times to completely lubricate the inside of the wood threads in the shaft, but I have found that this often helps.

Less wood outside, more proportional core inside should equal more squirt.

I still like the G core, but it does buzz a bit more than the OB classic.

I shoot with the McDermott I-3 which I really like. Any comparisons to the G shaft? Someone mentioned McDermott service - it's great. Jayme answers any e-mail I send him. For $21.95 (shipping and handling charge) they clean, reseal, and install a new Moori soft tip. They will do this twice a year for life. I'm not aware of any other shaft manufacturer that does this. I've shot with an OB-2 and didn't see any significant difference. The ferrule on the OB-2 is a little distracting to me so I prefer the I-3.

Perhaps the G core shaft isn't less mass (lighter) than the Z2 and why it squirts more?

solid Maple - 755 kg/cu.m
Graphite - 1,384 kg/cu.m
hollow Graphite ?

Personally, if I wanted to get a G core, I would just buy a cue that comes with a G core shaft and swap the standard shaft I had on my nicer cue onto the cheaper McD butt. That way you end up with 2 complete cues instead of 1 cue with a spare original shaft for only about $100 more. Some of the lower end McD's that come with G-core are only about $240.

that's a good idea, thanks!

I have tried the following shafts for my McDermott.

1. Standard Shaft.
2. G-Core Shaft.
3. I-3 Shaft.
4. OB Classic Shaft.

Personally, I think if your going to spend the cash on a 'low deflection shaft' go all the way and get an OB shaft. They have 4 different styles to choose from now and they are far superior in every way, IMHO.

I never use LD shaft, but I would likt to try, thanks for your advice.

I have both and I like the G-Core better. One thing I found that you might want to consider. It is as if the older 3/8x10 joint is just slightly larger than the current ones. All my shafts fit on my new Dubliner but the old standard shaft feels just a little loose until you get it all the way on. I would definitely try out the particular shaft you are going to buy on your cue before purchase, or make sure they have a good return policy. Of course you can send the butt to McDermott and I am sure they will make sure the fit is perfect.

McDermott did have a good return policy which has the life warrent.

Regular shaft does too that I don't like the buzz sound which likes there's something wrong inside the ferreul.

Check out their website, under lifetime maintenance plan. There is an address and details about what they do for the $21.95 shipping and handling fee. The G core will gete retipped with the everest it comes standard with and Jayme is quick to answer emails and knows what the term "customer service" means.

I will own McDermotts because of the way they hit, but just as importantly for the way the company excells at customer service and communication.

it's true!
