Mean Spirited?

Because its easy to be mean on the internet. Any internet forum you go to has similar issues. Most of these people don't have the balls to say anything in person. AZB also has a very tight knit few users that dominate threads where any other person or opinion is squashed. I come here for the information, its definitely not a place to make friends.

In conclusion: its much easier to be 6'4" 225 with 7% body fat behind a computer screen. :grin-square:

Why are there so many mean spirited people on AZB?

I don't think there are that many mean-spirited people on AZ.

Out of almost 45.000 members, how many are mean-spirited?
...I doubt it is even 1%

Agree here,

It's also easier to know everything! I should know, because I do.

Some play the mental antagonist, some play the physical and a few both.

I have been saying the same thing about these type forums for years.

Dont say something to someone online that you wouldnt say to their face.

Out of 45,000 members how many really post regularly. Maybe mean spirited is the wrong word. Hostile may be a more appropriate word.

Shut up fool....... English you need to get off your ass and get away from the computer.

My sentiments exactly. Pick out the ones you consider to be mean and divide that number by 45,000. I think you'll find the answer to be 1%, just like pt said. :)

That is probably correct as far as the number of mean spirited members. But the % probably goes up if you calculate the % of posts. Because the people English is talking about have really tended to make themselves known with their frequent posts lately.

I simply don't let the words affect me. Sounds simple, and it's probably not for some. But it's water off a ducks back for me.

I try to be light, fun, and informative in my posts/opinions. The thing to remember is you can't win an argument in a forum. A debate can be interesting, but arguments often lose me as a participant in a forum rather quickly.

Frustration can lead to aggression and aggression is often displaced onto less threatening individuals.

So your boss gives you a hard time at work and when you get home you give your wife and kids a hard time. We try not to but sometimes we kick the dog when we cannot retaliate against those who frustrated us.

For some AZB is pretty far down the social structure.

I suspect that less powerful people are more easily frustrated and that is often why it is younger people and those who are unable to respond to the real pressures who act out their frustrations here on AZB.

Just more psycho babble for some. However for the guy who beats his wife and doesn't know why there is some truth in here.

its actually s pretty good place to make friends.

Lots of the members meet up every year at tournaments and nationals.
TON of great people on here!

Now STFU, noob, and don't post again until you have 1,000 posts!

(Think about that one. . . .)

Some folks kids never grow up...
That is why they made the ignore feature. Just add the member to your ignore list and you won't have to read the comments ever again. Great feature BTW!

Really? I'm attaching a flat screen to the front of my jacket, sounds way easier than dieting and working out.

And, if you operate it with hidden batteries, you can display a screensaver that shows the public you have a six-pack, and are cut like a bodybuilder. The screensaver can even display going through muscle poses, while you do nothing behind the flat screen except wear it.

I think Internet forums can tend to bring out the worst in people. You end up fighting with people you'd be buddies with in real life.

I use to get in some political spats myself on whatever, facebook, CNN, yahoo discussion forums etc. I look back and kind of cringe as to why I even did that.

It's pretty silly if you think about it and maybe the more newness of the sites made it seem more normal at the time. Also, this sounds weird, but you kind of are alarmed and po'd when people don't think like yourself, as funny as that seems. That's the one thing the web has really opened my eyes to, that people have a vast array of opinions on things that can be really different than what you expect.

But just look at the discussion boards on the web and how silly it gets. This site is certainly no where approaching that, but things can get dumb anywhere on the web.
