Measle balls in practice

I picked up an Aramith "Tournament" Black spotted cue ball just before Christmas because I decided to practice and actually learn some things and it's been a huge help to me. Wish I'd gotten one a long time ago. It hasn't left the table since.

It's easier for me to observe relative rates of spin, and yes, that helps.

And not just in practice. Most rooms around here use them too.

I never liked the measle ball .. to me it always rolled funny. Can’t explain it honestly. I picked the triangle one that comes with the predator balls and have been using that for about a year. I like the way it play. Not sure if it helps but I like seeing how it spins

The better training ball is the elephant ball that has a realistic miscue limit and a black band that shows wobble clearly. Dr Dave also uses it as a convenient measure of the amount of spin applied in deflection tests (center cue tip on horizontal center at red circle). I like it for learning how much spin can be applied for top right or left spin (much less than I thought):

We mess around now and then timing how long we can spin one. Bet on the results.😉

They were invented for tv/stream so people could see spin. I'm not a big fan. I've never stared at whitey after a shot to see how it spins. They play ok but i'd never buy one. I like a classic clean white cb.

I screwed around with one for a few weeks when I first got started, but ultimately I am not a big fan of them. I understand having them for TV tables so the viewers know what's happening and why. But in my opinion, it didn't continue to help me once I became confident with english. Now I find the dots more distracting than anything.

Yes.

Been playing with the Aramith black measles and, if nothing else, at some subconscious level, you observe the spin and learn sumthin' on many shots.

What is the difference between the one you have and the original red one?

I am in the market to buy a measle ball.

The dots give some subliminal feedback I suppose. They seem to play heavier than the Centennial circle ball even though they clock in the same. Maybe the dots create the illusion of sustained motion. In addition to the authentic Aramiths I came across, I got the Chinese fake ones in blue and green as well as red. They aren't identically spec'd but they play the same to me.

As far as rotational feed back, that shouldn't be critical to the shooter. My concerns are the same as with a single color ball. The pool.

Always. Less distraction the better. Even when you're just showing off.😉
