Mechanics in Maryland

I just bought a Gold Crown III and I need someone to install it properly. I live way down in Southern Maryland in the sticks and there are no knowledgeable people in my area. In the mechanic's directory there are two advertised in Maryland. I need to know if anyone in the Maryland, DC area has had any experience with either Chris Shanklin or John Burns. I called John Burns and he seems like a very nice guy and sounds like he knows what he's doing. However I am a bit over two hours away and it may not be profitable for him to travel the distance. I also called Chris before calling John and I told him I would get back to him. The reason I called John afterwards is because I wanted to weigh all my options. When I checked testimonials and pictures beside each of their listings in the directory, I was surprised to find that when clicking on Chris' testimonials, all it did was take to a bunch of pool tables for sale. When I clicked on John Burns' testimonials, I was directed to a page of actual testimonials and pictures..... All of which were positive... as I was expecting but they were there. John did say if I can't find anyone else he would probably do it when he's not that busy but I thought the price was a bit high.... almost as much as the table cost me. I wouldn't mind so much paying the amount as long as I knew I was getting the best job around. So I'm at an impasse here. I'd love to here from some fellow Marylanders!

Table mechanics in Maryland

After receiving a strong recommendation for his services, I personally had the pleasure to watch John Burns set up a Gold Crown 1 table in Charles Town, WV last year, including re-covering cushions and, of course, installing bed cloth. And, as expected, he did an outstanding job on the table...and, I've played on it, too, and it simply plays great.

John's work ethic, work quality, and professionalism is above reproach...his attention to detail and his wealth of knowledge in this industry is highly regarded by his peers and those customers for whom he's done table maintenance and repair.

I would highly recommend that you arrange for John Burns to perform the work on your table...I feel most certain that you will be completely satisfied with the results.

Lastly, I would suggest contacting Ken Hash at ClassicBilliards.net...he is a major force in table restoration, including hard to find table components, and he uses John Burns almost exclusively for his table deliveries and installations. (Also see his testimonial on John's web-site).

John is a great mechanic, you'll be hard pressed to find a better human to work on a Gold Crown:yeah:

Ben,
Thanks for saying that the link just took you to my site, Rick may have an old link to my site on there I will have him update that for me. I would try Kevin Higgins out of Woodbridge (703) 492-7665 he may be able to get to you since he is definitely closer.

I am actually north of John so he may be able to give you a better price on the job.

And nice Rics...yours? I had one, many years ago. I want it back.

Yes my Rics. Unfortunately I'm down to four but only two in that pic. You sell one to buy another, trade here and there but it's all good!

Well John showed up at my house bright & early yesterday morning and started working on my GCI. After a few hours I was shooting pool on my "brand new" Gold Crown I. It's such a treat to see a pro work their magic. It was definitely worth the wait! Thanks John!:thumbup:
