megan minerich

Megan plays pretty sporty. She used to live in Lancaster, PA at the poolroom I worked at back in the 90's. She had a bf who played really well (Rafael Saladnas or something like that) and was under the wing of Randy Fry, another great regional player who has since passed. I ran into her at Buzzy's in Allentown and she offered me an unsolicited spot of the 7 and I had to accept *grin*. Her bf wanted to play next, and I had to decline since he played way to well. The next time I ran into her was 7 years later-- the IPT World Open in Reno... her game appeared to have sky-rocketed. Thank GOD she didn't offer me the 7 this time, it would have been embarrassing to say no in front of my friends. :)

Megan is an excellent straight pool player, I believe her high run is 98! Not too many guys can say that.

She works hard at her game and she'll only continue to get better.

Cuechick, the only reason Kelly is within 2000points of being #2 on the tour is because of the change in the points system. So obviously if you win a tournament or two or three your going to jump up in ranking alot faster.

Now my reasoning for putting Monica in the elite is because what other girl on the tour held the #3 spot for as long as she did without winning a tournament? And that was only because she would run into allison or Karen. Now she did drop to the #6 spot behind Pan and Ga-young.

But I doubt it makes her anyless Elite than Jeanette. I'll always give Jeanette the benefit of the doubt cuz, of her back surgeries and having to take time off for that.

If we are going to get into a pissing war, then I might as well say any girl in the top 16 is Elite! Because if you look at the top 16, almost all of them have won a title or been in the finals more than once. The only ones I think havent been in the finals are Melissa Herndon, Sarah Ellerby, and Kim White.

Storm,
I am not sure you understand how hard it is to win a WPBA event? Outside of the current top 5, the only one to win one in the top 16 in the last 5 years is Helena, who won the Open about 3 or 4 years ago. An american has not one a title in ??? (SJM help me out here) eons!
You do not get to number 3 on this tour without being consistant (which is why GYK sits in 5th) regardless of the new system. The points only apply to this season's events...
I am not trying to start any kind of war, and obviously you have made up your mind but IMO not including Kelly in the top echelon of women players would be like calling Tiger Woods an okay golfer...

Phoebe,

When are you coming back on tour? I was winning money betting on you. haha. You were moving up the rankings fast as I recall. And I really believe you had what it took to win out there. That darn little Alex.

I liked the way you played under pressure. Always cool and stayed focused. You would have definitely been in the top ten. And weren't so hard on these old eyes either. I know you must have wanted to be a mother, and your kids must be beauties. So good luck to you always.

I still like your hubby. He is a breath of fresh air wherever he goes. If pool ever got big, he would be a superstar. I can see why he wants to play in Asia, where it IS big.

If they ever have a doubles tourney, my money is on the Pagulayan team!

Yes, dam that Alex!!! Haha! I don't know when I'll be playing again - kids are still young (3 & 1 1/2) - and Alex is always gone. So, I gotta be here for my kids or it would be like neglecting them. Funny, I never "wanted" to be a mother - things just happened - but now I love it! But I admit that I still fall asleep at night dreaming of playing the game again! LOL!

*SIGH* I will come back, it's just a matter of time.

Thanks for all the blessings and comments Jay!!

OK, let's tidy up the WPBA history and other information here.

The last American born player to win a WPBA title was Jeanette Lee at WPBA Florida in 2004, and she is not among the current top 5. Far more notably, no American-born player that joined the WPBA tour subsequent to 1993, the year Jeanette Lee joined, has won a WPBA title. I believe Monica Webb will change that at some point.

The ranking points do not only apply to this season's events. Points were recalculated for last year's events using the new method, and the rankings are based on points accumulated in the last ten WPBA ranking events played, WPBA Michigan City 2006 through WPBA San Diego 2007. In truth, Kelly Fisher would be #3 and would still have Karen Corr in her sights even if the ranking system had not changed. Kelly Fisher is one of the truly elite players on the WPBA, and, in my opinion is among those capable of contending for the #1 ranking.

Finally, Helena Thornfeldt won the 2002 US Open.

Anna may only be about 4ft 10 in tall, but, she is tough.

ANNA MADE A DRAW SHOT IN SAN DIEGO THAT I AM NOT SURE SHE REALIZED HOW GREAT IT WAS; VERY NICE AS WELL AND WILL BE EVEN BETTER AS SHE HAS JUST BEGAN THE DANNY DELIBERTO FILIPINO NUTRITIONAL DIET TO IMPROVE HER EYESIGHT.
