Members Only Section on AzBilliards

You gotta very valid point for sure, unfortunately! :o

The reason I was thinking that it might be cool to have a Members-Only Sectino is because this forum has grown so large.

It would be one additional benefit to those who REALLY like hanging out on AzBilliards. All others who do not desire to join as a member will continue to enjoy AzBilliards just like it is now.

Other forums with MEMBERS-ONLY sections, these MEMBERS-ONLY sections are usually not that populated, but they are free. You just have to log-in, get a password, provide an e-mail, et cetera.

With an AzBilliards membership, the MEMBERS-ONLY section would only be one of MANY benefits to the paying member. I'm thinking about the sponsors of this forum may be interested in donating a once-a-year prize to raffle off. There could be monthly raffles with maybe some cool pool products.

Avatarless!! That's sacreligious! This man would not be able to communicate. That would be a shame. We would all be in the minus!

Any of you guys farkers? www.fark.com is a forum/web community. They have what they call total farkers, these are people that have paid memberships, they have their own forum, and have other benefits, it works great over there. The other option they have is that you can "sponsor" another farker to be a total farker, so if there is a particular poster who doesn't have a paid membership then one can be gifted to him or her.

I know I just posted about paying for a membership, but I felt the need to post again, to say that I wouldn't see the need to spend any money to go to a members-only "Cafe" that has just as much ability to have hecklers there. There are going to be people we don't care for in everything we do and every place we go. Why would anyone feel the need to pay for it?

A paid membership to anything usually means snobs are present and I'd rather be hanging out with real people. If snobs feel the need to hang out with us, they are very welcome and we'll treat them just like everyone else. If they can't handle it, maybe we should let them start a paid members-only forum where they can hang out and make each other miserable and leave everyone else alone.

Wait!! I think I'm beginning to catch on.... :D

For the record... No, I'm not calling anyone a name. I love this forum and haven't really paid much attention to who is what. Most of the folks here are terrific people. I like the fact that I can choose which thread I want to read and ignore the others. I like the fact that this forum is a great place to share and it is FREE.

If you guys want a paid, members-only forum, I say go for it. It won't upset me, one bit. It will be a great gossip hall, I'm sure. I don't care to get involved in one of those.

This isn't that tough to get across is it?..

a membership for benfits doesn't mean you have to pay to be on AZB, it means you would have an option of buying benefits.
And it's not about paying members having their own version of 'the main forum' or anything... there may be forums just for the paying members, but I'm sure it wouldn't be a 'members only main section' or a 'members only wanted/for sale' section... it would be forums that AREN'T on the free version of AZB...
If there ever would be a members section.

Is this making any sense?

I Vote For An "I Don't Get It" Member's Section

I guess that I just don't get it either (even though Randy offered to PAY FOR ME)...

If someone had a cue for sale or a Tournament announcement or anything else worth reading, they would post it in the Free forums, where it would be seen by the most readers. Memebers Only would have to come to the Free forums to read what's going on. What's the advantage/difference of a Member's ONLY section ?

We already have a 'Pros' section, so Pro's wouldn't need to go to the M.O. section. We already have a Chat Room. We have seperate Forums for damned near everything.

If it's just paying money for benefits, why not just send in money if you like, in order to receive the benefits for Paid members ? Why a seperate Forum for the paying M.O. ?
Doug
( whatever is decided, I'm IN.... it's not that I'm 'against it', so much as I just don't get it.....) :)

Someone needs to splain it to me like I'm a dumb little baby....... imo

It's quite simple, really. If all the forum is free, we are welcome to talk about each other and be overheard, which puts a certain respectable level of responsibility on each member. If any part of the forum becomes private, it's main function will be to gossip. Even if it doesn't start with that purpose, that is the way it will ultimately end up. What other purpose could there be to "set yourself above the others" by requiring a fee? Just being an AZBer should be enough, but it's not. There has to be an elite group of them. They have to set themselves apart from the rest.

Either AZB should charge for the whole thing, or keep the whole thing free. That's the only way to keep it respectable and prevent it from becoming a gossip hall that causes a lot of hurt feelings and causes it to lose it's solid impact on the pool community, in the long run.

If anyone wants to take the time to REALLY think about this, they'll see that I am right. For every answer you supply to yourself, always continue with "Why?" and you'll get there.

(By the way, I LOVE your new avatar, Smorgass Bored! Dadgummit.... You changed it before I could post my message. I was talking about the Intel/Idiot avatar.)

TAP TAP TAP

(But I didn't understand your post completely, should I add "Why?" now? Why?) ;)

It is most flattering that all of you would be willing to pay money to read my erudite and insightful comments.:D

But what, pray tell, makes you think I would pay to read your literary diarrhea:confused:

Pay up maybe?

He might pay up, but shut up? Are you kidding? And why would we want that?

I need another Coors, Doug you want one?

Do you guys not get the fact that if there was a paid option it doesn't even necissarily mean that there would be private forums? And maybe if there were private forums there wouldn't be any general talk forums?

I think a pay-for-benefit program is a great idea... first, the people who want the benefits could get them (it's not realistic to add some benefits on for free, as they wouldn't do anything bust cost Mike money), and second it helps support AZBilliards.com

Some of you people are going WAY over-board with the paranoid thoughts, I'm sorry, but it really isn't that serious, at all... There are countless numbers of boards that have paid memberships (or donating members) on top of the free service -- and I haven't seen any problems in any of them so far.

Can we all just CALM down.

How do YOU know what's going on ? It's JAM's idea.

( I don't trust any woman that I've never laid my eyes on....... or my hands ) :)

I think if the owners of the website want to consider offering a paid membership, they should outline what the benefits and cost will be, then take a private poll to see what the interest would be for it.

I think the whole idea of a member's only section stinks of snobbery and elitism and I would not participate in such a scheme even if it were free, and even if I were invited to.

BTW where are all the political threads on the main forum Jam?

If you were talking about the NPR forum hey--that's why it's the Non-Pool Related Forum, you can post about ANYTHING your heart desires and you can ignore whatever you don't like. Amazing huh?

I'm sorry about Grady and I'm sad to see him go. I think people should be more tactful and civilized when participating in discussions on the pool related forums. But your idea is like throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

Sorry, but I prefer to keep mingling with the hoi poloi, the common herd, the vulgar mob, and ya know why? Cuz I'm a pool player that's why! If I had ever wanted to be part of an effete upper class, "I'm sooo superior", bunch I would have never chosen to be what I am --a rough around the edges, straight talking, chalk stain handed, pool player.

Rant off...
