Members Only Section on AzBilliards

Joew,
That sound ok, but I would still argue that many will initially be turned off by that. Also, that would be a HUGE under taking for the moderators. Probably an unrealistic amount.

personally, I have no problem with this forum becoming a paid site. A nominal fee of perhaps a $100 per year for EVERYONE

How about 2,000-2,500 $ per year? I am for that.

The use of distinguished member with all that means might be a way to solict the likes of Nick Varner and similar people to actively participate.

Joe, we have separate forums for professionals like Nick but unfortunately they are rarely used either by the general membership of AZ or even the pros themselves.

On the control panel all of your posts are listed. It takes only a few minutes for a moderator to review when requested by the level 1 person or when requested by the member for bad conduct. It could be reasonably self policing with moderator oversight. The caption under the person avatar (or lack of one) need only be changed to reflect their status.

The programming to make these slight changes is not arduous and may even be available inthe cmmercial packages.

Lurkers stay at level one until they request a change of status and or are nominated by members.

Note that this system does not request or require money of anyone, unless they want to contribute.

I agree Joey there are sub forums for the pros. I was looking for a way to get them to participate here.

Mike isnt doing this for free y'all..........he gets paid.

Az has grown continously and will continue to do so...more and more advertisers will come as the hit count goes up....

Like I said before...the only people who would pay are the ones who post already........same thing, same people, different name.....and NOT FREE.......

Psst. Hey, Joey A. I hate to break it to you, but the GANG OF TEN is already here in full force, though their identities are unknown.

They travel through all threads, 24/7, taking copious notes. Communication is made via some sort of secret letter-scrambling code, only known to them, camouflaged in their posts.

I think I know who two of them are, but I'm not sure. ;)

I'll see your $2,500 and raise you a grand:)

AZB is an enjoyable facility and if it came down to it I'm with those who are ready to contribute a reasonable flat across the board fee levied on everyone both for weeding out purposes and as a gesture of goodwill to the site owner. The site owner would of course have to make his own determination of the likelihood of the related income surpassing that which might be lost from any reduction in advertising revenue which may be partly dependent on total user numbers etc. Maybe he wouldn't even like the idea of a fee paying site himself.

As regards a restricted access members only section, if there is to be one, which like many others I have no particular feelings about one way or the other, it is pretty obvious that to have any chance whatsoever of meeting the type of objectives which have been proposed it should be invitation based rather than fee based.

Would like to say though that there is ample clear evidence that the likeable, sensible, thoughtful, entertaining and sincere posters far outweigh the small proportion of trouble makers and that there is no reason why the majority should not be able to drown out any misbehaviour which the busy mods do not have time to get round to and at the end of the day we are all pretty capable of standing up for ourselves and any close acquaintances when necessary.

I think the whole idea of a member's only section stinks of snobbery and elitism and I would not participate in such a scheme even if it were free, and even if I were invited to.

BTW where are all the political threads on the main forum Jam?

If you were talking about the NPR forum hey--that's why it's the Non-Pool Related Forum, you can post about ANYTHING your heart desires and you can ignore whatever you don't like. Amazing huh?

I'm sorry about Grady and I'm sad to see him go. I think people should be more tactful and civilized when participating in discussions on the pool related forums. But your idea is like throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

Sorry, but I prefer to keep mingling with the hoi poloi, the common herd, the vulgar mob, and ya know why? Cuz I'm a pool player that's why! If I had ever wanted to be part of an effete upper class, "I'm sooo superior", bunch I would have never chosen to be what I am --a rough around the edges, straight talking, chalk stain handed, pool player.

Rant off...

Tap, tap, tap. I'm not questioning your intentions in bringing up this subject JAM. But IMHO it would have a chilling effect on this forum.

Joe, I do truly understand you point, however, I can not agree with it. When you start labeling anyone as Level anything you are starting a class system. Now, the forum already has a class system in place, that is what the Greene's next to your Avatar are, we do not need another such system. This would only further compromise the integrate of the forum, through descent which would be caused by the separation of the masses.
I mean it is already a fact that new posters are not given the credence they deserve because they only have a single green. I can't tell you how times I have heard a senior member make reference to another poster being new to the forum in a less than positive manner.

I mean who is qualified to make the decision, which level a person should be assigned too? Actually it really matters not, because some form of bias will always be involved, even if it is unintended. I also think if someone wants to live in a bubble, due to the realities of the real world, they should just turn their individual computer off. This way they can feel secure and hope their bubble never pop's, because reality is just outside.

Just my thoughs, no disrespect intended!!!

Have a nice day

Look Ed, you already do enough trash talking about AZ Billiards on RSB.

As far as I'm concerned you're nothing more than the pot calling the kettle black.

Actually to be direct, your post is designed to just stir up shit. So just why don't you just leave that alone.

If you want to try and make valuable contributions, do so and try to get along.

You come on here read the posts, like some of what you read, copy them then run over to RSB and paste the iformation then trash talk about AZ Billiards. That's not the way to make friends and get along.

This type of posting is the kind of shit stirring that doesn't make for a nice pleasant forum. It's simple, if you can't play nice here, go find another playground.

If you can play nice, you're welcome to stay.

Not much of a sense of humor hey, Joey. I guess you need a smiley. :o

I've been called a few things but shit disturber is not one of them. Go re-read most of my posts. I'm either serious or teasing but I'm always polite. In this case I was teasing but I guess you didn't get that.

Oh, and i don't cut and paste. I give links and attribution if I find something on any board (that includes ccb and Jimbos even) that I like because many RSBers don't look at other boards and appreciate that I do.

Many times I don't even comment on the links I provide other than to say "read the good thread". What is wrong with that?

Ed, I don't have much of a sense of humor when someone comes into a thread and tries to get under the skin of another person. You know what I'm talking about. I don't care to go do an advanced search on google for where that came from and what came of it. Just leave it alone and create some nice threads yourself for polite pool discussions. That's why we are trying to do here.

Hopefully, someone won't jump on your thread and call you a shit-stirrer. Oh, yeah let me add this: :)

But seriously, you are welcome here, as is everyone just as long as they play nice.

JoeyA

I like most of your suggestions, Nick. the only thing I would change is put all the for sale stuff in one section.

Also, it's aggravating to try to read a thread, when some have banners and super large pictures. this type poster needs to realize that others don't like to scroll back and forth to read a post. :(
