assuming that Varner has the stamina to play a while at his normal high level I like Varner.
Nick is one of the most under rated players of his generation.The man was a true monster in his time.I got to watch him in person at the recent tournament here in Denver and he held his own with much younger players.And none of the players at the tournament are as good as he was in his prime.

No question nick for the win here. Even at his age he plays stronger than most of the top tier females.
I mean Efren said that nick was just one of those guys you couldn't pry the money from. He just kept coming.
Race to 100 not only favors players w great stamina but it just puts players that cut their teeth gambling in their comfort zone.
I'm not aware of any top flight femals that gamble in that long of a format, other than Jeanette Lee. But even the black widow couldn't fade nick's game for that long.

it would be interesting if someone would put up some money. $10,000 maybe and back Nick against any female player using that format.

I went to see the 1st Annual Nick Varner Classic at Felt mainly to see Nick play. Nick will be 66 in May, and he still plays at a very high level. He beat Chip Compton and Joey Gray to reach the semifinals, before losing to Mika who of course won the tournament.
I got a real chuckle out of Nick's comment on the stream during the finals between Ruben Bautista and Mika. Neither player was playing well in the first set, and Justin asked Nick, "What's going on here Nick?" Nick said, "Well, I don't know, but I sure wish I could make it a ring game!"
He dumped.

Karen Corr and Jasmine Oschen are the only two women who play against men today. Janette Lee has played in the past, but I don't think she does anymore.
Take men ranked 10-20 against the women ranked 1-10. Which gender would be in last 8.

It's simple....the better player on any given day.
Gender doesn't matter a bit......Jean Balukis was as good as any male player except for Willie.
And since no one that's ever lived matches Mr. Mosconi's skills on a pool table, well, nuf sed!

If you were able to accurately rank the top 100 players in the world (which would be very difficult because a 100-200 rank player wouldn't play noticeably different to a 50-100 player over a short period), it would be very surprising if even 1 female would make the cut.
There are just way too many good male players. For every Dennis Orcullo, there are dozens of young kids in the Phillipines nipping at his heels eager for a chance to make it big.
I probably could have said that better. It just seems that when there is a discussion on the best of all time he is seldom mentioned.
And he certainly deserves to be in the mix.
