Meucci Collectors

Chris,

Again thanks for the info.

The one my friend picked up is in decent condition, but is in need of a touch up. (He picked it up for less than what many cuemakers charge for a shaft.) Yes I am jealous. I have never owned any Meucci cues, but some of the older designs are attractive.

When I first became interested in pool it seemed like there were two groups, people who liked Meucci and people that liked McDermott. May have been a function of age, money, and location. Location being there were few places that sold cues. Money and age being Meucci and McDermott cues were affordable for a high school/college age person. It just so happened the place I loafed at sold McDermotts and did not sell Meuccis.

I would guess a very large percentage of pool players started out with Meuccis, McDermotts, and Vikings as their first "real" cue.

Next progression seemed to be Joss or Schon...and after that it seemed to go in the direction of custom.

Scott--> where in PA are you located? i am from the wilkes-barre scranton area.. and yes.. it was the same when i started playing pool.. my first cue was a Mcdermott , actually one that had decals on it.. ya know.. the deer, antelope and elk.. we dubbed it "THE DEER CUE" lol.. it was famous..lol.. although it had a huge pin and hit like a ton of bricks.. but other then that everybody had like you said.. either a meucci or a mcdermott.. i went from my deer cue to a nice helmstetter (which i wish i had now) , sold that to buy a 1 of a kind schon from the late 80's early 90's.. sold the schon for car insurance money.. turned out i didnt really need the cash (wish i still had that cue! lol) bought a Joss east , i must have thrown that cue across the pool hall atleast a dozen times.. it was the stongest cue made ever. although.,. i most have broken about 5 shafts.. sold that.. and you know the story.. wish i still had it.. it played nice.. but you know.. memories.. got myself the most expensice limited lucasi because i love the way it looked.. although i rather play with an house cue.. bought an expensive schon this time and now i have my mottey.. in the middle there i must have had atleast 6 or so meucci's pass through my hands.. wether i bought them and sold them because the deal was right or whatever.. i think after all that.. i probably wont sell another playing cue of mine.. unless i am in dire need.. wether its something cheap or expensive. now if its something i bought to resell.. thats a different story..

Meucci Roadrunner

Below and in the next few posts are pictures of a Meucci Roadrunner cue that I photographed last year. This actual cue is now in the 3rd Blue Book, however I was disappointed that there were no color pictures of it.

That is the first one I have ever seen - thanks for showing it. I didn't realize it was in the new BB - good job. It would be a pretty neat conversation piece. Good thing he didn't make 10,000 of them or they would be going for $500 like the rest of the high-end Meucci's!

Chris

I'm glad to share it. Its hard to see in the pictures, but Wile E. Coyote is chasing the Roadrunner in a spiraling road on the buttcap. The road then continues on the forearm of the cue. The Coyote is gold, and I believe the white parts of the cue are ivory. They might be the typical Meucci plastic that has a grainy look to it, however. I can't say with certainty. I guess the publishers of the Blue Book did not get the cue in time for the color section. There is only one small picture of it in the black and white section of the 3rd edition.

Chris,

I reside in western PA, near Pittsburgh.

Iusedtoberich,

Wow that road runner cue is something! I like how the coyote is carrying a knife and fork. I'll bet the cue is even more spectacular in person.

Regards,

Scott

You guys in PA probably know the cue's original owner: Pete Sinkler. He bought the cue directly from Bob Meucci in the mid 80's. The cue was in excellent shape all these years. I helped him sell the cue to the editor of the BB last year. It really is a nice cue. Meucci definitely has had some unique and interesting designs over the years.

Meucci Sneaky Pete

Got this cue for playing in the bars with the big cue ball. Its butt heavy. Figured it would be a good weapon if needed. Ha Ha. Don't think they make them like this anymore. Check out the price in 1982.

Aight since u asked for Meucci pics. Heres a few pics of my OL-2 (Airplace Cue) and my 88-3 (Spear Cue) which is still a virgin, hehe. Gotta love those plastic wrapped cues that Meucci loves 2 send u. Both for sale at the right price. I know 3rd edition Blue Book of Cues shows the 96' version (Meucci) of the OL-2 (Meucci Originals) as $565 at 98%. So i would suggest the OL-2 is worth more than the 96' version thats listed in the blue book. As for the 88-3 Spear Cue i didnt see it in my BB, but im sure its comparable to some of the cues listed. Then again, this one is 100% brand new, never chalked. Barely sees the outside of the plastic. So i dunno what i would price it at. Anyways, heres a few pics...=-)

I have one but it's in the project pile, not suitable for publishing.

My favorite oldie is the Aiplane cue, Oldie #2, but the finest meucci, IMO, is the Oldie 3. It is a pretty subtle look but has many fine details, inlays, points, etc. It's a fascinating cue to look at up close.

Here's the flyer, compliments of Budget Cues:

i still love rempes cue tho.. well i still like the old red dot shafts.. back then they use good old maple for their shafts... my red dot has about 14 growth rings on it. if only meucci ferrules were not hollow 3/4 way up and had a longer joint pin like a radial pin...

well i kinda like windows and heavily inlayed cues... the ol-5 has abit of everything... floating points.. windows... barbells scrim shaw...

I don't own this one. It is just here for repairs. Seems to have been the victim of a bad refinish job. I've never seen one like it before.
