Mexican sorcerer

I seriously doubt he was trying to malign anyone.

He's a scientist, he literally wrote the book for setting up artistic program shots with engineering accuracy, and he's supported pool and billiards for decades.

He's earned the benefit of the doubt.

I've known Bob for over 40 years, I know what He's all about! We rarely agree on much!

The Official Artistic event and program has been in existence long before Bob diagrammed shots for the USA!

BTW, I've played in a official Artistic event in 1984 in Chicago.

And it is exactly that preexisting bias whic leads you to infer there is malicious intent in bobz statement, "it is amazing what silicone will do...".

Are you seriously going to argue that it is not amazing?

So, YOU don't think the shot can be made without silicone?

I think Bob and several other, 'Science Guys' in the cue games, give more credence to the science aspect of the cue games rather than TOP players ability, proper training and knowledge from experience!

That's what "I" think!

...
The shot can be made without silicone, but not with that particular rate of action. Roberto Rojas is a very talented, inventive and entertaining player. He can also make the shots without silicone. But silicone makes the shots a lot more impressive especially if you have to deal with worn cloth.

But I suspect you knew that.

Your last sentence is correct!

I've played with and against Roberto several times, He's a close friend.

The dramatic effect is NOT necessary for him, He's not the 'Showman' like Sayginer' is!

He's more about precision and effectiveness of t
he stroke!

That 1984 Artistic Tournament in Chicago included, Rojas, Adrian Viguera, Jose Luis Campos and myself.

BTW, Roberto did NOT win it, Adrian did! He also was an Artistic Champion of Mexico! We used 'OVER SIZED' Ivory balls! Adrian 1st, Roberto 2nd, myself 3rd and Luis 4th.

The American 3C players which in the last 50 years are few, that could even possess the ability and & stroke knowledge, we have been under a 'severe' handicap for many years, as you know Bob, we were and still to this day are NOT allowed to practice, 'masse' shots! I'm not sure of the % that exists in the program! But, they usually have a 'higher point value' than most in the program! Unfortunately for me, those were mostly the positions "I" missed in the event! :( Also, not having played with ivory 3C balls for 20 years didn't help! The, 'follow' shots were somewhat easier, but, the 'draw' shots took a little bit of a delayed action! I'm assuming the 'porous' surface of the ivory balls had something to do with it!

In NO way am I inferring that I was and are the 'Artistic' player Roberto or even Adrian is! But, this short video I'm about to share is from 1983, at 20th Century Bowling & Billiards in Chicago. The tables are unheated Brunswick Anniversary 3c Tables, with 4 month old Simonis #1 cloth and Aramith billiard balls. The cue is an McDermott 'Hybrid' cue with a cork wrap I had Jim make personally for me! In the style of a, 'Harvey Martin' billiard cue, Just simple 'birds eye' maple,

Portable video cameras & recorders had just came out, (Panasonic) and I was just dying to try it out!

NO SILICONE!

Enjoy!

BTW, IMHO, the 2nd to the last shot of the video, is the 'Diamond' in the video! Just ONE take too!

P.S. Maybe there are some here that aren't aware that the material that is used in place of, 'slate' ie; polished marble and granite can give a more exaggerated effect to the CB!

Nice shooting - I did read you used a McDermott cue long time ago -- what was the shaft Diameter ( think that Gilbert shot with a 13 mm ,could be wrong ) - also when did you stop using the McDermott and also notice your bridge was much different back then.

I really like the one at around the .50 mark. Nice.
