Mezz Wavy Joint

I was not sure if I should have posted this Q here or on the Ask Cue Maker Forum. Anyway...

My friend has a Mezz Ace cue that comes with a Alpha hybrid shaft. He was curious how the cue would play with a predator shaft. The thing is the standard pin on the cue is wavy joint. Could anyone tell me if this Wavy joint is the same with standard radial pin?? If not, could anyone tell me what the exact size of the pin? to me, it does look similar like normal radial pin but somehow it looks just a bit bigger.

This the link to the pin

Is there any disadvantage to having a wood thread on your cue compare to brass insert thread? would wood thread wear off with normal usage (2-4 trips to pool hall per week)?

Thanks

It's 3/8x9 and it plays stiff.:)

I personally have not tried the wavy joint or the alpha shaft. I had the Mezz ZZ-O9 ordered from Greg Savoie and lemme tell you, that thing was a fine cue. It came with the WD-700 shaft and it was superb.

The construction was superb, the joint fit well, and shaft hit like a good shaft was supposed to. I couldn't believe it, it hit so good.

The wavy joint, to me looks like a radial pin joint and I would only assume that it would fit the same, but don't take my word for that. I can only guess that people are loyal to American products and that's why Mezz hasn't taken off like Schon. Mezz, to me is every bit as good if not better than a Schon in some respects, but Schon will always be the king of the traditional style production cue. Mezz is the way of the future.

If you want a Mezz, I suggest you ask Greg Savoie at http://billiardwarehouse.com/cues/mezz/mezz_cues.htm

He is extremely knowledgeable and will take the time out of his day to talk to you. Good Luck.

Does anyone know where I could get Mezz SP rubber grip?

You can Order one from us, Mezz USA. By the way, I have not seen how it's actually done, but you might need airpressure to put it on properly.

contact Caroline at Mezz USA:

To Starburst:

I'd try to mezz hydrib pro2 before putting a Predator shaft on the Mezz cue.
The Hybrid Pro2 is a low deflection shaft as well and has had great reception by those who have tried it. Alex Pagulayan for example.

Hi Starburst,

Wavy joint:

It's actually similar but even more accurate insertion to the threads because of the small extra thread within.

This increases contact and solid feel. thus it feels just like a one-piece cue, which is a goal to any cuemaker.

I'd say when you first try to put it together, you know how solid it feels. That why you have to make an effort to screw it together. This tight joint feel remains. Just play your heart out.

Good luck,

Hey Mika,

Good to see you here, Congrats incredible performance this past year! I just got your DVD, great job!

I am kinda curious though, I think I read somewhere that you now are shooting with a WD700, why the change from the HP2 shaft?

And with Mezz making so many cues, do they all vary in handle thickness?I have a ZZ07 now, but recently bought a Z804 and the Handle thickness is a little thicker, not quite as comfortable as the ZZ07. Is this normal?

thxs for all the help,
Best wishes to you for 2009!

what does yours measure at the handle? i've had 5 mezz cues and with the exception of the break cue they all seemed to have the samehandle thickness.

i have a mezz and calipers you measure yours i'll measure mine and see if there's a difference

My Mezz ZZ07 measures 1.21" at the butt end.

:) Sorry, morning humor.

I really like the WD700, great shaft. Can't believe this one isn't talked about more.

I have played the cue and I honestly liked it very much. I posted the Q initially cos I wanted to purchase the cue off my friend. It is his spare cue and he is funding a new cue so he offered the cue to me. I was worried if the wood thread on the shaft will wear off so I needed to make if I could a replacement shaft for it.

It did hit very solid and was not much deflection. I was surprised to know that the pin is 3/8x9. The pin looked way too big for the size. I thought it would be closer to radial pin. As Mika said, it screws very tight and you will actually need some muscle to put the cue together:)

As for the SP grip, thanks for the info Mika, I'll try to contact Caroline to see if she could get it sent to Australia.

So I would assume that it's possible to get a replacement shaft but it will be hard. Please correct me if I was wrong.

For anyone who wants to try Mezz, don't hesitate. I break with Mezz BK I and totally happy with its performance. Its quality and precision really impress me.

anybody know where can i get the Predator or OB shaft to fit in my Ace 804 wavy joint cue?
and maybe with the Ace ring as well? not prefer, but would be good

because i don't really like the Alpha that doesn't have the low deflection technology. (i can't shot good) so time to look for high tech shaft
other than low in low deflection technology its a great shaft btw.
hard, powerful...

contact caroline pao at Mezz USA. She can get you aftermarket shafts like Pred/OB with the wavy joint and matching ringwork. You might also want to look into the Mezz low deflection shafts, the WD700 and Hybrid Pro 2. They have good low deflection performance and also have a great feel.

Hi.

We do take custom shaft orders for Predator and OB to match the Mezz united or wavy joint systems. We do have low deflection shafts like the WD700 and Hybrid Pro II avaiable.

Please contact me at info@mezzusa.com for pricing and estimated delivery times.

Thanks!

Caroline
