Midwest 9-Ball Tour Stop: St. Louis Area 9-18/9-19

I stopped by there Sunday afternoon when Shane and Gary Gwynn just started, but couldn't stay. Also, it looked like ladies were battling it pretty hardcore. I dont know who won, but Rachel and Chelsea were on their 2nd set, if I remember correctly, when I left.

Jean - Sorry I missed your call, I had the phone sitting on the table and didn't check it until a few hours later.

is the no phenolic tip a house policy or midwest tour policy and why so?
thanks in advance

I believe the no phenolic ruling for Midwest tour is the same as the BCA League. They have discovered that the phenolic tip damages the cue ball from continuous breaking.

It will still be allowed for jump cues though. A player doesn't jump that often and definitely not at 20+mph.

I have a feeling that his will be going around to other tournaments also.

Gary Gwinn is from IL, somewhere around Springfield! He and Andy Hauschild run together often. Very strong player!

Can anyone tell me how late the matches will run in this tournament? I would like to play, but I won't be able to if they are going to be starting matches at 1:30 or 2:00 in the morning like they did the last time I played in Olathe. I can't make 3 balls in a row at 3AM. :(

Thanks,
Aaron

Aaron, that only really happens when there are more than 65 players. Calcutta never starts till around noon, then play immediately following. (around 1::00 pm after they draw names and get the board up).

Wish they would start earlier.

Yeah, I have been in that situation playing at 2:00 in the morning, then have to be back in at noon Sunday.

Course, I can still make at least 4 balls 'cause I don't drink because of the long drive back home.

Gary Gwinn

Marc,

He is frequently at Riverbend in Alton with Andy H. He plays as an 8 in the 9 ball. No offense to anyone who cashed but was Andy Q, Chuck, Justin,Jimmy, Gary etc.. and all other champions not playing at the break? If so how did they all do?

FWIW I was there Saturday for a while. I know that Chuck R. and Darren E. were playing, but Andy and Justin B. weren't there to my knowledge. James Baraks was there too. I'm not familiar with Jimmy and Gary, so I'm not much help there.

I know Andy Quinn was at the Mo8Ball league championships... its where I was and I was surprised to see him there as well; unfortunately his team got knocked out saturday night and didn't make it to the money. Can't say about anyone else.

Gary Lutman was there. I do not know how he finished.

that's right... i tried to remember the final 8 bracket, but obviously didn't. i know he lost to Gary Gwynn, because I was amused at the gary v gary aspect. but i dont remember if it was on the 1-loss side or not.

Anyone know who cashed at MO 8 ball Allstar? Who cashed at team tourney?

The AllStar individuals was won by Mike Renik (my team captain, as it happens). It was an interesting match, made the 8 on the break, hill-hill for the win. lol

As for the teams, we ended tied for 3rd/4th in the 5-person team side. Lost to a team out of Teachers, I think, with an older guy, an 8, something Weber, I think his name was? They also have a Paul who's a 7, iirc, shot damn good against us. We just didn't take advantage of their mistakes; shrug.

I want to say a team out of The Wedge won the 4-person team side, but I never heard them call "the wedge" on the PA, but they were all the same players we play when we play that bar.

After our half-hearted attempt and loss, i left and headed to the break, so i dont know who actually won the 5-person side, or the overall team winner. i can probably find out tonight at league, if there's a flyer in the envelope that is.
