Mika wins in Qatar

I don't care whose stats say who's #1... I think Mika is. Congratulations Mika!

I'd like to see a Mika versus Orcullo match with Appleton (sober, lol) and Pagulayan doing commentary.

Congrats to Mika- he is playing real, real strong this year.

Congrats indeed. Mika is playing unreal lately.

A couple of months ago, I ran into him locally, and asked him what he did to make his game jump. He wasn't too specific about details, but mentioned an "adjustment in his backhand position" (or grip). Either way, Mika's game has leveled up a good bit, imo.

Congrat's to Mika.

And also Congrat's to Daz for his #1 ranking. He has definitely earned it.

Also, I wanted to post a message Darren posted on Facebook in regards to his 3rd place finish. Very Stand up guy and definitely knows how to lose as well as win.

"Darren Appleton was involved in a great match today but sadly didn't go my way the kid played great fair play to him he's a future world champion..and already last 2 years won junior world championship some talent..I only made one bad safety and one bad positional play and lost 11-8 :-( but happy with my play..he didn't play as well in final but mika played awesome with some great run outs to win esp at the end well done to the iceman :-)"

Very classy!

Eric

Maybe he saw something when making those videos that prompted the change.

That's possible. I'll ask him next time I talk to him.

I wonder if it was a change in grip pressure, or what fingers have "more emphasis" on the cue, if that makes sense. I'm guessing that in players that good, the change is very subtle.

Saw this on http://www.billiardphilippines.com that Mika got "the top prize money of US$40,000. Ko, received US$20,000 for runner-up place. Losing semifinalist Filipino Antonio Gabica and Briton Darren Appleton, the 2008 World Ten Ball champion got US$10,000."

That's the same payouts as the US Open...or close to it. Thanks for the info, and congrats to Mika on his very convincing win. Also congrats to Darren for his recent ranking.

Appleton sober......No way !!!! LOL LOL LOL

He seems like an awesome guy but the TAR commentary with him was a bit rough when he was hammered and blathering on a bit.

I just like the idea of a filipino commentator and a European commentator working the match of a pinoy vs euro.

I swear I thought the title of this thread said, "Mika wins a guitar," and I was thinking just how small the prizes in big tournaments have gotten lately.
