Which is a higher quality with a firmer hit ? Would either hit close to a Schuler?
Are the points more precise on one then the other?
 
never had a Troy Downet but Benders are hard to beat.they are high qualtiy and they are nice and stiff.
 
I have owned a Bender cue and liked it very much. He is in the top echelon of cue builders IMO. Pretty hard to go wrong with one of his cues.

I have no experience with Downey cues, so I can't really offer any advice there.

If you are buying the cue as a player my advice would be if at all possible to hit with both before you buy. No other real way to see what you prefer.
 
downey cues

I have a downey cue and the hit is excellent,everyone that has hit with the cue loves it.I haven't hit with a bender yet but the advice that was given to try them both out is great.The materials in my cue are top notch and the design and finish are excellent.
 
The more appropriate question might be how much are you willing to spend? Benders carry a pretty hefty price tag, but it is not undeserved.
 
I appreciate everyone's thoughts. I already have a Bender as well as a few
Schulers. So I know how they hit, the reason I was asking was one of the people on the forum is selling a couple high end Downing's on ebay and I've never seen a Downing except in pictures, so I was trying to determine if the quality of workmanship and hit was comparable to either the Bender or the Schuler. So you know the Schuler I'm talking about is not a low end one. I'll just say its a custom.

These Downing cues you are refering to are actually Downey cues made by Troy Downey. They are nice cues and play well. I have had 2 of them in the past and am trying to work a deal on getting one of them back.
 
This is the "Ask the Cuemaker" forum. This question would be better asked in the Main Forum. Most cuemakers will not have played extensively with these two cues like the masses in the Main Forum would have.
 
I've hit with a Downey, played pretty good. Butt was a bit skinny for me, but that may have just been that particular cue.
