Mike Coltrain

I was in Babineau's (Raleigh, NC) last Friday evening, and Mike was there casually shooting with his wife and some friends. As I am relatively new to pool and never saw him shoot in his competitive days, any stories about him would be appreciated.

He appears to be a very mature and gracious young man, to deal with his circumstance as well as it appears he does. I am assuming he incurred some type of nerve damage, given the pronounced tremulousness he suffers.

We've talked about ol' Train on a more than a few occasions.

Use Search f(x): Coltrain

That will keep you busy for a while.

yes, I have few Coltrain stories that I've shared on here. Good guy, Mike.

Also, his condition is called Focal Task Tremors. A bunch of people paid a lot of money to the best doctors in the southeast to find out if anything could be done, sadly to no avail.

Thanks for the clarification. Was he in an accident?

Coltrain

Michael Coltrain is one stand up guy, and would of been a great representation of the American professional. He played hard and wasn't afraid to bet his own and treated people with respect. I wish he still could play.

Coltrain

Don't know him personally, but the last time I asked about him, I was told that the tremors were never diagnosed correctly and that he didn't play anymore. He does stand accused of drug abuse when he was a younger man. GF

Coltrain used drugs?? That is a joke! I can't believe you would say something like that... Then again there is always that someone out there
who is always trying to start a bunch of bull sh@!
If you cant say something nice you shouldnt say anything at all...

Slow down George. I was around Mike for many years and never knew him to be into drugs of any kind. He was about as straight as they come in the pool world. Maybe he was guilty by association. We were all guilty in that respect.

Although I don't give a good crap about Archer I don't think he would have spent so much time working with Mike if he was getting high, Johnny really helped his game a bunch.--Leonard

Wow Mr. Fels. Do you really believe that it is proper for you to slander someone with hearsay on a public forum?

Especially when a person was innocently asking for positive stories concerning a person he just met?

Well, I have met Mr. Coltrain in the past and found him to be a polite person with a lot of talent and heart.

I have a Michael Coltrain story.

I watched him play Alex Pagulayan $500 a game 9 ball at JOB's in Nashville and Mike won the first game and Alex the next four and Mike quit with no complaint, no hassle, no negotiation, no whining.

Then he went on to win the tournament against a full field of killers.

This young man had a promising career cut short. It's very unfortunate and in my opinion one should not pile accusations of this sort on top of such circumstances. I daresay that I have been around this game as long as you have been Mr. Fels and among the seedier side at times and I have never ever heard of Mr. Coltrain being involved with drugs and certainly never that he abused himself with them.

I believe that you owe this forum and Mr. Coltrain a retraction of your statement and an apology unless you are willing to stand as the accuser. Otherwise Mr. Coltrain does NOT stand accused of abusing drugs.

Thank you, Roadie. I agree wholeheartedly about needlessly slandering this young man. Hell, I'm a practicing psychotherapist and did a ton of drugs as a young man and child of the '60's. It wouldn't matter if he had used drugs, he seemed pretty "cool" to me. Any other stories out there?
