Mike D withdraws from World 14.1

You know where the problem is here, there is a reason when a radio contest has a disclaimer about being an employee, or their family not being eligible to partake or win a contest.

To anyone who owns a room, runs a tournament, or does anything similar. Stay away from anything related to the money, to the payouts, to anything that may or may not look favorable towards you in the eyes of the players OR spectators. I can't tell you the number of times I have been at a tournament and the Calcutta is overrun by any of the above. It looks shady, and greedy, and reeks of a possible collaboration and underhandedness. It's bad form, and should be avoided at all times.

I also know the difference between a TD and promoter. Some here, obviously do not. The tournament director handles all the day to day, minute by minute, on site decisions that can effect the very outcome of the matches being played. Charlie has nothing to do with that, fwiw. I made the distinction because multiple people in this thread have stated that gross inaccuracy.

As far as what happened between Mike and Charlie. They are both at fault here. Neither has told the complete truth. And both have walked away from this losing more than they've gained. Regardless, I see no point in attempting to resolve it because ultimately, folks have already made up their minds and taken sides.

I will say this- seeding in a round robin event means very little. One thing to mention though, Mike was put into a group initially, and after he withdrew and then wanted back in, he was still in the same group. He was never placed in a different or more difficult group, as has been implied.

It's between Mike and I! It's so stupid, not worth talking about!

Um, no, you made it public that you have a beef. What's the beef?

Are you embarrassed about how childish you were in some perceived slight, but can't get over it, so you come online to razz him anonymously?

Hilarious.

I getcha.. I was just stating some common sense.

Did CW do the seeding or the TD? Johnnyt

He was still in the same group? If that's the case what was the problem?

Taking the Browns to the Super Bowl?

We all lost guys. Charlie lost an American player in a "world" tournament. Mike lost an opportunity to show his skills at a game other than rotation pool. We lost a player who brings out both the best and the worst of AZ Billiards. We also found out how deep the divisions are between Mike's fans and his detractors. What a sad situation for all of us. Isn't there an APA hating thread to focus on  ?

I think that is not answering the question
Did the 3 include CW?
But more importantly what criteria were the seedings based on ? :D

Yes, Charlie was one of the three involved in the seedlings. They were based on past performances in this event, as well as other 14.1 accomplishments. Of course, there's no perfect formula. The 3 "new" Germans in this event went unseeded. All made it to the final 16. 2 made the final 8. One made the final 4.

Dieter Johns did not make it to the final 16.
